Are you really asking Don Ruggero what evidence he has ?

I mean seriously?
This is pretty remarkable, I would say.

It is a question so simple in canon law that a first year…even first day student should educe the answer to it.

But I thank you for the rally of support. It is appreciated.

Yes, unfortunately the easter vigil is on saturday not sunday. You did not fulfill your obligation.
Ok so you just affirmed that the 2 Priests on this thread are right. And you were not. With your thread link to A Third Priest.

I will pray for you.

You are very welcome Father. Its good Trinity has just affirmed you as right too. I feel so umm Irish!

I have a PH.D in religious studies
Well…if you have a Ph.D in religious studies, may I suggest you take a moment to analyse the arguments you are making and decide which side of the case you wish to present?

In your first posts, you have said that the obligation is not fulfilled. To wit
Yes, unfortunately the easter vigil is on saturday not sunday. You did not fulfill your obligation.
And
Is easter vigil on sunday? If not it does not satisfy the sunday obligation, regardless of your protests.
The sources you are citing, however, are all confirming the canon I quoted. I suggest you need to re-visit the matter.

I believe my post 26 adresses this concern.

Easter Vigil fulfills the EASTER OBLIGATION, but not the Sunday obligation.

Peace.
Pretty sure it says here Easter Sunday
Default Re: Does the Easter Vigil Count?
Hi,

The Easter Vigil does indeed fulfill the Easter Sunday Mass requirement. I don’t know why your grandmother would think otherwise, since the Saturday night vigil Mass throughout the year fulfills the Sunday obligation.

Right. I do not think we are actually disagreeing. It indeed suffices the easter sunday obligation, but since you went on saturday instead of saturday you still have the obligation for the next day and it will count as a normal sunday. I think we can all agree on this.

Ok from the top
  1. Op asked if Sat night Easter Vigil Mass would fulfil Easter Sunday obligation . They were tired from the late night and zeAl and excitement.
  2. FrDavid said yes it Did. He is a Priest.
  3. You said no it didn’t
  4. Don Ruggero said you were wrong, and that the Easter Vigil SaTurday night did indeed fulfill that obligation for Easter Sunday.
  5. Canon law was provided for you
  6. You pulled up a thread from a third Priest affirming the othe 2 Priests are correct . Again affirming you are in error
  7. You have a Doctorate in RS.
Am I missing something here?

No.

The obligation for Sunday is fulfilled by attending the Mass on Saturday evening. It is not that attendance on Saturday somehow “suffices” or that one would “still have the obligation for the next day.”

The obligation has been fulfilled.

I am trying to find some middle ground so we can all agree.

I should say that sums it up very smartly indeed.

No, but you did not correctly represent Fr Serpa’s arguement.

We can conclude his arguement is as follows:

Going to easter vigil fulfills the easter sunday obligation as a holy day of obligation, but it does not satisfy our weekly sunday requirement. Therefore we must attend mass on sunday to fulfill our weekly requirement.

This is coming from a PH.D
