I think a marble cross would have been a bit heavy to carry up to Calvary. Now, I know Christ had the weight of the world on his shoulders, but…

BTW, who was it who carried the cross for Jesus once he stumbled? I forget.

Wait- she did not say the Cross was marble-

she denys the cross!

It was wood torture stake! Not enough wood to make a cross!

The manger was Marble,

But why would animals be feeding out of marble?

So she’s really not a true JW then! Because if she was, birthdays and Thanksgiving are also paganistic holidays!:rotfl:
I feel bad, since she always was a by “the apostate book NWT Jw” but after she saw my baby,

She changed some of her beliefs fast.

So did I. I prayed to Mary for her to come into this world and my Mom knows it. My child was a medical miracle.

Maybe there is hope for her yet. Because “we just don’t know!” Maybe she’s really a closet Catholic. Or a Catholic wanna be.

I have no idea what JWs teach about the manger, I always thought they claim the cross was really either a tree or a wooden stake.

I did see a documentary, probably on DSC or PBS or someplace not too long ago, anyway a secular production, not religious like EWTN, about Christmas, the nativity story, Bethlehem, shepherds etc. and it showed examples of stone mangers fixed in place. These were in the type of dwelling, apparently common in the Holy Land, that are made out of caves or carved into a hillside, where the family sleeps on a platform above the animals. There were stone mangers for straw or other feed, and stone water troughs, each somewhat different in size and shape. So I suppose it is not too far-fetched that the manger in which the Christ Child was laid could have been stone, but unless it is shown marble occurs in the vicinity naturally it would be hard to prove that claim. but it is something that could probably be supported with historic and archeological evidence if you think it matters.

I too am an ageing female, who finds it increasingly difficult to find energy to debate non-essentials. Real apologetics is exhausting enough. After that slam, I will go on to say what I was going to originally, but had second thoughts about in the name of charity. Heck, as an ageing female I can say anything I please. I was going to observe that what I find far more troubling about the exchange recorded in OP was the fact that one person offered an observation about details in the life of Christ with a devotional intent, and another person jumped on his comment, riding right over the intention of the comment. If this is a mother-child confrontation, it speaks volumes about a relationship sadly in need of healing, which we can certainly pray for.
My apologies, You would have to know “our special relationship”

Trust me when I say I was not going over the line and Yes, I love my mother and she knows it and even tells me that she knows I love her more than anyone else, blah blah,

dont worry the old geezer can take it. I am not that bad to her really.

:ehh:

I am in the bosom of the Whore! You must be joking me. No way. She will die before she will go Catholic!

She told me she would embrace Islam before she would go Catholic.

Since I have to make a few waves wherever I go…

You can believe that God came to earth as a Man, born from a virgin, and then resurrected after his death… but you can’t believe in a marble manger?

There is a striking display of three types of crosses known to have been used by the Romans, who were the inventors and principal users of crucifixion as a means of execution. It was explained to us that wood was, and still is, a very scarce item in Israel. Therefore, crosses would not have been made of new, well-squared off lumber such as we commonly see in illustrations. The same crosses, or at least the same uprights, would have been used over and over, for the Romans crucified dozens or hundreds of people in the Jerusalem area. In Matthew 27:32, where it tells of Simon of Cyrene being compelled to carry Christ’s cross, these experts contend that what was carried was only the crosspiece from the cross. The upright would have waiting at Golgotha, they say. Of course, their theories are only those of mortals and could be wrong.

In regard to the scarcity of wood in Israel, our guide told us the country has embarked on a major tree-planting effort over the past 25 years, and that most of the trees we could see on the hillsides were a result of that effort. Historically, brush or wood has been the common fuel for cooking and heating purposes, he said. He also remarked that wars are especially hard on forests, because the armies have little time to worry about saving trees.

Thank you for your post. Are you saying that its possible the Jw’s are correct and that there was not enough wood for a cross but only a torture stake?

I am not getting this at all and my head is spinning.

I would like to know if the Cross is wrong and if it was marble the baby Jesus laid in,

I need to know as I am going insane now over this.

Yes we DO know. I am Santa for my farm animals. They will definitly NOT be getting marble ANYTHING for Christmas EVER.😛
If I could only tell my mom that a Catholic I know on CAF said they were Santa she would run with that -

I know what you mean. But she does not get it.

As she sends the presents,. she still does not get it.

Its like marilena’s thread, not getting it.

They dont use reason.

They just like to argue against anything Catholic!

Has anyone heard this WBTS thought before or is this my mom going insane?

Okay, now I never heard this Marble thing before. Mind you she has been a JW a LONG time. So is this WBTS stuff or is my Mom loosing her bleeping mind?
My vote is that your Mom is one among the pistachios. But you still have to honor her.

Side bar: if she has other insane ideas, write them down. They would make a great read (we’ve down it with our crazy relations)
