Was Jesus Gay---Probably---from an article in the Guardian

I cannot see any evidence in scripture that could be read that way. It would not be intended to convey that meaning, given the attitudes of the time. But if it were true, would that say anything at all about Jesus that is not accepted by the Church? The Gospels say he was tempted. The descriptions suggest he was tempted by the sin of pride. Why not by the sin of lust? And why not men, rather than women? I know someone is going to say: he was God, and therefore would not have been ‘disordered’ in his thinking. But is a tendency to pride any less disordered, or a tendency to worship Satan (which he was tempted to do)? And I think there is quite a long history of the Church holding that these were genuine temptations. Why could, from the catholic point of view, Jesus not have been sexually attracted to men? And why could he have not, from the Catholic point of view, formed close gay friendships unencumbered by attraction to women? I can see that from the catholic point of view it would be hard to believe he would not have been celibate, but is there really a problem with thinking he might have been (not that he was, on the evidence), or could have been, a celibate gay?
That is true but if someone does not have the disability of being attracted to men and not many in our society have that problem, then Jesus had no problems in that area. Just like he was not tempted to be a pedophile. Satan could tell Jesus that he could have any man he wanted sexually and if one is not attracted to the opposite sex it wouldn’t be a temptation that would mean anything.

Some wanted to say Jesus and John were lovers since it says in the bible Jesus loved John more. I said they might as well say Jesus was a pedophile then since John was the youngest apostle and much younger than Jesus. Anything to rationalize ones behaviour when needed can be found in the bible if you want to go there.

I guess this won’t ever end. Some say Jesus and Mary Madeline were lovers. Some will then say Jesus was bi-sexual. Really dumb.

Thank you for your feedback, and we are glad you feel more able to answer people who make clams like those you shared. It is a confusing world.
May God bless you.

He provides no Biblical evidence for such a claim. People will twist the Bible to condone and fit their lifestyle and ideology from what the original text says. There are people who twist friendships between Ruth and Naomi, David and Jonathan etc, into illicit sexual relationships. This does not hold any truth and neither does twisting the platform friendship between Jesus and John

I feel, in general, with no direct comment to any particular post, that a person’s response to the theory, and others like it, says more about his or her feelings about gay people than it does about his or her feelings about Jesus.
Sure. Me getting angry at someone verbally attacking my daughter is wayyyy worse than cussing at a two year old. Great point…

I myself believe it speaks volumes about how they feel about history’s only sinless Man, and the Son of God, than it does how they feel about gay people.

It is also the reason why they claim that we’re secretly gay.
This is suspected of those who over-react to gay issues, not of the ordinary person who just goes about his or her life and doesn’t have particularly strong feelings on the topic. Those who are obsessed with the topic are often actually gay. I doubt that any gay person would claim that most people are “secretly gay”.

Epan,

You have to wonder as well those that support “gay” issues with vehemence, finding themselves in places where support for these issues would require effort, as you say not going about life in an ordinary way.

It’s evident that you haven’t traveled widely enough. There are most definitely homosexuals who claim that most people are secretly homosexual. (The line is, ‘they just don’t know it yet.’)

(Right) 😉

Slandering The Lord is as old as time. I ignore most of it.

The obsession with presenting any sort of male friendship as closet homosexuality is tiresome though.

I was on another board where it was said Abraham Lincoln was probably gay and I said next they are going to say Jesus was gay and they came back with this article and said he was.
And Islamists claim that both Christ and Lincoln were really Muslim. This seems to be what radical groups do to try and push their agenda. They rewrite history as a propaganda effort to get people to be more accepting of their lies.

This is one of the many reasons why self-interpretation of scripture makes no sense.

Thankfully the great majority of people have yet to discover this, or you and I wouldn’t be here! 😛

Indeed. It seems that everything nowadays has to have some sort of sexual dimension, whether two guys, two girls, or a guy and a girl. A cigar is never “just a cigar” any more.

Of course it’s a lot easier to speculate that Jesus was gay as opposed to Buddha or the Prophet Mohammed( for fear of retaliation from you know who- wink, wink- hint I DON’T mean Episcopalians)!

Terry
Not all Buddhists worship Buddha. He wasn’t a god - he was just a guy who had some ideas about life.

Anyway, on topic, why do you guys care? In your view of Jesus, the one from your holy scripture, Jesus certainly isn’t gay. Why can’t you just ignore it as being nonsense?

Paul Oestreicher expects that many Christians will be shocked by his suggestion that Jesus was gay. Perhaps so, but here is another response: why can’t liberal Christians shut up about gayness for a while? Dwelling on the issue is a bad form of Christian communication. The point of Christian communication, or “proclamation”, is to interest people in Christianity, to make it seem attractive, inviting, serious. Banging on about gayness puts people off. The more that liberal Christianity seems to be a holy pressure group for gay rights, the less the average person wants anything much to do with it – not because she’s homophobic, just because she’s not that interested in the issue. A form of religion in which the issue is so prominent is woefully limited.
And conservatines aren’t vocal about homosxuality? :ehh:

Maybe every “gay” person is secretly heterosexual.
Aww, gosh darn it, you caught us.
We were going to all show up to a huge pride parade on April 1, 2014 with lots of media coverage. Then, at the end, we would yell “Surprise! Got ya! We’re all straight!”😉
All those years of planning wasted!

This is just absolutely disgusting. Gay activists know they aren’t convincing most Christians to support their sickening crusade for immorality so they attack our Lord and Savior by claiming that He was gay! They probably even think He was a practicing homosexual! How disgusting!
