You need to either read or carefully re-read the Popular Mechanics article because dozens of skulls and skeletons of first century Palestinian Jews were used and Archeologists and Anthropologists from Israel collaborated on the forensic reconstruction of the phenotype of a first century Palestinian Jew, such was Christ.
The assertion that all of the Jewish males of the era were essentially identical in appearance is not only scientifically unsound in the extreme, but it is a little disturbing (they all look alike to me?).

There is no physical evidence of blond haired, blue eyed, fair skinned first century Palestinian Jews or non-Jews.

Archeologists have found the skeletons and other physical remains of caucasians in ancient China, Greece, northern Italy, but not in the middle east at the time of Christ. There is no exant physical or written evidence of light skinned, fair haired caucasians existing in Palestine at the time of Christ.

It is still too absurd to think of Jesus with northern European features.
 
When asked about the color of Mary’s eyes, one of the Medjugorge “seers” said she had beautiful blue eyes. David was known to be of Ruddy Complexion. If you believe this then Jesus may have had red hair and blue eyes! I have never seen a picture of Jesus with red hair.
What difference does it make how we picture Jesus? When we finally see Him in His glory it won’t matter one bit. 👍

It is pointless to continue this any further. You are still talking about a blond-haired, blue-eyed Jesus that no one has ever seen. No one has ever described Jesus as a blue-eyed blond. I have said over and over that I do not know of anyone that thinks Jesus was a blue-eyed blond. The only place that this image of Jesus exists is in your argument against the Shroud which does not depict light hair nor any eye color so your argument really makes no sense at all. Regarding the figure found in the Shroud it was already stated in a previous post that it is the figure of a northern European caucasian. I believe you were the one to introduce hair and skin color into the debate. Sorry you failed in your obfuscation of this discussion.

Review the posts. The only person describing Jesus or the Shroud image as a “Northern European” was you. The only person describing Jesus (and incorrectly the Shroud image) as a blue-eyed blond was you. I did not introduce hair color into the debate (my only mention of it was to say that no one ever claimed he was blond as you assert), and skin color is the topic of the debate. Enough said.

Actually Our Lady of Guadalupe is thought to be (an actual picture if you will) what our Lady actually looked like here on earth. Read A Handbook on Guadalupe it rather remarkible.

Just curious…What facial features on the shroud make the image look like a cuacasian? THe figure on the shroud seems to have a different nose then most Europeans. :confused:

To me the face on the Shroud resembles Max von Syndow, the features of a northern European caucasian: the elongated face, the round eye-sockets, and the long, straight nose.

Since Jesus was a first century Palestinian Jew, it would only make sense that he would share the ethnic features of those people, features which were successfully reproduced in the Popular Mechanics diagram.

Don’t forget, Judaism is a religion, not a race nor an ethnic group.
 
I’m wondering about the last turn this discussion has taken… about the genetic makeup and descent of Jesus. Is Catholic teaching that He derived all, or half, of His physical nature (as in DNA:genes) from His Mother?

If all of Jesus’ physical nature were derived from His Mother, then Jesus genetic makeup would be identical to hers, which is clearly not the case, since He is male and she is female.

If only half, then the other half (that half which in us is derived from our fathers) must have been directly created by God.

Any comments?

Does it make a difference theologically?
