Appearance? I don’t know. But, I suspect that our Lord was left-handed, as Mr. Koufax is.
That particular picture of Sandy is great. (See post 70).

I could see Jesus looking similar. I like the expression on Koufax’s face.

It looks mysterious. Determined, Knowledgable and Confident.

He’s putting on a baseball cap as if he’s going to battle.

Also he might have been the most well known DEVOUT Jewish person in my lifetime.
Who once refused to pitch in a World Series game because it was Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. I thought that was courageous, honored God and gave the Jewish faith
the best witness I’d ever seen.

Maybe that’s why the Lord let him win Game 7 of the 1965 World Series on TWO days’ rest. Talk about astounding miracles!*

Sandy has dark eyes, dark hair, tan skin … but what race? Um. What are the choices again? Lol.

*OK it was a pitcher’s ERA when mounds could be high as a mountain, but still. 👍

He probably looked Mexican. Have you ever seen our lady of Guadalupe?

The Jews were a Semitic people of the Middle East, as many have pointed out. From what I understand, DNA tests of modern Jews of European descent show a “mixed” heritage, of European and Middle-Eastern DNA. Darker-skinned, “Semitic-looking” individuals of European Jewish descent often fascinate me, for this reason, because their appearance is comparatively more Middle Eastern. One could also say that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish them from particularly dark-skinned Italians.

Jews of more Semitic appearance would include, in my mind, individuals such as:

–Jeff Goldblum
–Franz Kafka
–Judd Nelson
–Dustin Hoffman (especially as he appeared in The Graduate, very well-tanned, almost a doppelganger for a young Al Pacino)
–Charles Denner (a French actor of Polish-Jewish origin, who resembled Italian-American actor Frank Vincent)
–Adam Goldberg (only half Jewish, but very Semitic in appearance, in my mind)
–Hank Azaria (of Sephardic Jewish ancestry; his parents are from Greece)
–Ron Silver (another Pacino look-alike)

It is likely that Jesus appeared more like one of these individuals, thus indeed darker than he is usually portrayed in European art. As he appeared to have spent most of time outdoors, under a baking Palestinian sun, his darkness probably would have been that much more striking.
Tony Goldwyn, who portrayed Jesus visiting us in modern times (hence, short hair) in a little known film
Kurt Fuller and F. Murray Abraham, who portrayed priests in the same film
All Jewish…
great movie

People’s curiosity of what color Jesus was is not always about race. Many just “long to see His face” no matter what He looked like.

All of the picture I have or have seen of Jesus he is white or of fair skin. But aren’t a lot of people in that part of the world brown-skinned? Or am I wrong? Is it possible Jesus was brown? Just curious. It’s something a friend pointed out to me last year and has haunted me ever since. What do you guys think?
Jesus Christ would have looked like a man from Israel / Palestine, because that’s what the human part of his identity was.

So, tanned / olive skin, dark hair and eyes etc.

You tend to find that various human cultures tend to impose their own ethnicity on Christ, as well as other Christian figures, such as the Virgin Mary and also historical or mythical figures… I guess its human nature, perhaps as a way to better relate to a persona.

Although I think this will happen less and less, as the world becomes more globalised and people of different ethnicity / background etc are common everywhere.

👍 lol, but to be accurate it was “like the sun” and “white as light” and that is not a color of skin.
Moses’ face became "radiant’ (bright) with the glory of the Lord. I don’t think that is meant to call attention to color but to the LOOK of his face. But ok, white is a bright, radiant color. Yellow too if one calls the sun yellow - it’s radiant. Though the sun goes from orange to yellow to white at times depending on the time of day.

To be a little more insightful than technical - I have seen some dark skinned people blessed with radiance of the face, particularly when they are in prayer. 🙂

You’ve never seen Londoners on the first nice spring day, have you?

😃

There’s only one race, the Human Race.

One people under God.

“Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer!”
(One people, one empire, one leader!)

This was too funny on the juvenile level … and too insightful on an intellectual level to resist posting.

The evil-inspired sometimes say things quite close to virtuous and sensible as they bait the hook and fool people.

Your take was correct and so appropriate considering THIS topic.

Imagining it said with Hitleresque bombast just struck me funny.

👍 for your summary though. 🙂

Thank you! Exactly. I would prefer a more accurate painting of Him as He was as a man.

There was an actor named Jesse White. He played the “Maytag Repairman” in some commercials.

this obsession with race is based relatively modern notions. when was “white” first used as a racial description? 16th? 17th century?

what’s the purpose of even asking “was Jesus white”?
Yes.:👍👍👍

There have been other threads where some were so adamant on pushing that Christ was caucasian. The first humans were from Africa.

Christ is for all of us, He is God.

Actually Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) is British white. Born a Catholic, beautiful music - what a shame.
😊 Oh, sorry, I got his Muslim name wrong. I’m not the one who said Jesus looked like him.

Hasn’t he written/performed since he, what, swam the Euphrates???🤷

I know he’s performed on SNL as Yusuf Islam.

ICXC NIKA

Yeah I fixed my post, he didn’t perform for a long time, but I guess he’s back now. 🤷 Still a Muslim…😦

Really? You really believe that?

It is obvious what this thread was and is all about and it definitely isn’t about longing to see any face at all unless that face resembles yours.

Sorry to be blunt, but it is.

In the end result does it really make any difference what Jesus looked like or what color he was?

I mean does it really?

why would anyone even ask? are their brownie* points for being white? I’ll grant that the questioner is innocent, but the thread title is near scandal because of the connotations of race baiting.

some casual web surfer comes onto this forum and sees a long, extended discussion over whether Jesus was “white”, what on earth is he or she going to think except the obvious: for some reason, this is important over there.

*no pun intended, seriously.
Agreed.
