Was Mary baptized?

My mother asked me this last night, and I was dumbfounded…Was Mary baptized?

Mary received sanctifying grace at her Conception, so she did not need a Baptism by water to be saved. However, there is a tradition that she received the Sacrament of Baptism (by water) as an adult.

Related question: were the Apostles? We don’t know. We can safely say they were, we can extend a similar argument that sanctifying grace came upon them in an extraordinary way (since Baptism is the ordinary means by which sanctifying grace is conferred, but ordinary means do not constrain the Spirit).

We can’t say much about Mary that we can say about most people, at least as regards personal salvation, but God worked through her in ways different from how He works through us.
 
And remember, Jesus Himself had to be baptized to fulfill all things!
 
We know Christ would of wished it for her … and she did “whatever he asked” of her !!
 
Mary followed the law after the birth of Her Son the purification.

If she followed the law even though it did not apply to Her in the manner that the birth of Jesus was a pure birth (It did not affect Her perpetual virginity) yet she submitted to the Law, and She is Christ’s first disciple and lived the very life of Her Son, why would She not be baptized as He commanded?
 
Just because Mary was immmaculate doesn’t mean she wasn’t baptized. Even Jesus (being God) was baptized!

It was He who instigated the sacrament of Baptism with John’s cooperation for with His Baptism the waters were made Holy for all that spiritually followed Him. Jesus had to be Baptized for the sake of our Baptisms; therefore, the greatest of Baptisms. Please, don’t characterize it as a lesser Baptism.

Mary’s would be only symbolic being already “full of grace”, but I would guess necessary as a good/perfect example.

The baptisms with water done by John the Baptist actually were lesser to the extent that they did not forgive sins, unlike baptism by water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit which do forgive sins.

In the case of Mary there would be no need for the “greater” baptism because she was immaculately conceived.

Are u suggesting Mary was never Baptized …or that Christ & Apostles would not of thought it needful for her ?

Does the Church teach your idea ?

The purpose of baptism is to remove all sin.
Mary was free from original sin and committed no personal mortal sins. Why would she need a baptism? There was no sin to remove.

Baptism also confers a permanent character on the soul, signifying membership in the Church. Jesus and Mary did not need Baptism to be saved, or to confer sanctifying grace, or to forgive sins. But it was fitting (not necessary) for them each to receive a type of Baptism to have the same character on their souls as those who imitate them have, as all formal members of the Church have.

The Baptism of John was not the Sacrament of Baptism – except for Jesus. When John baptized Jesus with water, the Father sent the Spirit, making that baptism of John unlike all of his other baptisms.

Mary taught “do whatever he tells you”

CHRIST taught " ye must be born again, with WATER & the HOLY SPIRIT"

I rest my case …Mary WAS BAPTIZED IN WATER.
SOMEHOW, SOMETIME, SOMEPLACE !!

Was it by John the Baptizer, the Apostles( most probable) … or by Christ himself…even if by his own blood from Calvary…when she held him in her arms, wrapped his body, and laid him to rest ?

I am not saying she was not baptised. I am saying she had no need to be baptised.
However, I am happy to stand corrected if you can direct me to the Church teaching that states Mary was baptised.
