Is this thread and some of the posts here really appropriate for Catholic children or any children for that matter? I don’t think so…😦

I have read posts here at CAF, where people here have complained about, whether or not someone is “nice” or whether or not someone is acting “charitably” and yet this thread is still here….

Read post number 7…that’s terrible!

I would hate for someone to find CAF and this thread based on a Google search for “the virgin Mary”…

This thread and some of the posts here are heretical and amount to blasphemy against God. They are anti-Catholic and anti-Christian, offensive and inappropriate for children and others who may visit CAF!

Allowing a thread like this to remain is just asking for trouble and encouraging all the crazy people to post terrible things!

This is terrible!

No offence to the OP, but i suggest this thread be wiped off the forum and i think the person who uttered these words must get some exorcism.

I agree, I understand what the person starting this thread intended and the context of his question here… but I agree, this thread should be “wipe off the forum”!

I’m all for free speech and all, but I do think this thread goes beyond a reasonable discussion and will not serve any real purpose. Aside from most of you and I agreeing on something 😃

(sorry but such a stupid thread needs to have some positive)

Actually, this theory does hold a rather valid point. Though Mary did techniqually consent, she was rather young and undoubtedly naiive, and I doubt that a request to mother God’s son was one she could say no to if she wanted.

Consider some modern day cults, for example. In many of these, the cult’s leader impregnates many of the women in order to produce more followers. Now, these women verbally consent for the most part, but if you think about it, they couldnt exactly say no if they wanted to, considering the leader’s power and authority.

Now, I’m not saying Christianity is a cult, I am merely comparing two similar senarios. Mary, like the women of those cults, would most likely have felt obligated to bear the child, regardless of whether it was what she really wanted.

**Mary did not consent to a man who invented a cult of women breeders to produce offspring to be his followers. Mary consented to an Angel of God, who questioned the angel "how can this be since I know no man? " John the baptist father questioned the same angel and got cursed. Why was not Mary cursed after questioning the Angel? Then the Angel revealed to her that the Holy Spirit will come upon you and the Power of the Most High will overshadow you. This is a fulfillment of Prophecies.

You have to forgive me, but I cannot phantom the thought of the alleged poster of a rape from the creator. This just goes to show why the Majesterium of the Catholic church stands unchanged and firm on her position of interpretation of the sacred scriptures. This is why we have these false teachers and teachings, because of the abused freewill to believe what “I want to believe what the scripture tells me” These type of protestant, or non catholic self revealed scripture teachings without anyone holding them to account or authority will always lead to these types of error’'s.

Scriptural interpretations in the Roman Catholic church, you will not find these type, or any type of error, because the Magesterium is held accountable to God and 2000 years of Christian Tradition.**

The quote as to what Mary said to Gabriel seems to strengthen this observation. “I am the handmade of the Lord. Be it done to me arrording to Thy Word.” A translation of this could be that, as the Lord made her, she is his to do with what he will. While this could be consent, it could also be seen as grim resignation at what is to come.
**It is easy to judge from 2000 years later. Consider yourself? Because God created you, are you to think that God will’s you to Hell, or Heaven, or does God give you the free gift of self will, to decide your fate? What makes you different from Mary’s decision and freewill? Never mind 32000 different translations about this text, what is the one true translation is what one needs to ask? and not give it one until one knows. If speculation is meant let it be known, but to indicate a translation inform us from who.

Let me ask the board here? would you like it if someone talked negative about your Mother? Let us respect the Mother of Jesus, and not degrade her countenance.******

this thread makes me imagine how “god” got mary pregnant. 😛
Your thoughts of the flesh on this topic is compared to the worst stench from hell that exists in your mind. For one Jesus was begotten of God, not the way your flesh thinks, These mysteries are of the Spirit not of the flesh.

To contemplate creation from the flesh, consider you and I who come from a mixture of dust and water. Where does that mean where we come from Mud. Is mud capable of understanding the mysteries of the Spirit of our creator? So which are you of the flesh? or of the Spirit? Your muddy imagination must be cleaned first, before you can drink milk from the spiritual realities.

Repent and be baptised, so that we are cleansed from our sins, so that we may be able to have ears to hear what the Spirit says.

Peace be with you

Mary was chronologically young, yes, but back in Biblical times, a 14 year old was probably as mature as today’s 30 year olds. (probably more considering the ‘me’ generation we have today!) So culturally, and the time frame this took place in…it is not hard to see that Mary was certainly innocent, as she was only 14–but ‘teens’ back then were expected to marry and have children around that age. And take on far more responsibilities than today’s typical teens.

Aside from all that…I’m surprised the title of this thread is permitted here–the question startled me…like it seems blasphemous to me.😦

I think in order for rape to be rape there has to be a physical assault involved. There was no physical contact, even, involved. So, the word “rape” should be off the table. Maybe what we could debate is whether or not Mary gave her full consent to God to be the mother of Jesus. Like that other guy said, was she too young to understand, etc? Changing the title of this thread would be an option and then we could still discuss it. I, of course, think that Mary must have known or at least had an idea of what she was getting into. Even if she didn’t know, her concern for God’s needs were more important than her own and she was willing to do whatever He needed her to do.

New thread name suggestion: Mary’s agreement to be the Mother of Jesus.

Adam and Eve were rather young and undoubtedly naiive, but they managed to say “no”.

And of course, it’s not as though God to take Mary’s consent at face value. It’s not as though he wasn’t able to know how genuine it was.

An acquaintance who is a former minister and regularly appears in public with a clerical collar, and identifies himself as “Pastor…(x)” laid this on me today, to wit:

I don’t find justification for this in Luke Chap 1, but he says that Mary was already pregnant when the angel appeared to her, to him, proving his point that Mary was raped by God.

I don’t believe that for a second. My question is, Does anybody know of a denomination anyplace that pedals this kind of blasphemy or baloney exegesis as truth?
Although I’m not Catholic, I find that thought very offensive, to imply that God could rape anyone!

Doesn’t the NT say anyway, that the angel appeared to Mary and she gave her consent by saying, “Let it be done unto me according to Thy will”?

Amen! You are better informed that many “Christians”.

The Peace of the L-rd G-d of Israel be with you.

I haven’t read all the posts, but I need to say that when I was growing up the worst thing you could do is say something bad about somebody’s mother. So this is quite offensive.

Mary accepted God’s grace with 'let it be according to thy word", which is why she is the new Eve. Something like that.

I was offended by the concept for two reasons: one, it implies God could rape someone (chas ve’sholom, God forbid), but also, as a Jewish woman, it offends me because Mary was a Jewish woman and mother.
