On a related note, I wonder how to heck to avoid this stuff in our society today.
That sounds like a joke, but it’s not. The darned stuff is everywhere. It’s so pervasive, I’d bet a lot of us don’t recognize it.
For example, you’ll get a dose of it nearly every time you’re in the grocery store check out line, as some “woman’s magazine” will have some indecent tart exposed on the cover. If it isn’t pornography, it’s darned close, and the articles advertised on nearly every issue about how to seduce someone certainly must be. Every year Sports Illustrated comes out with its annual pornography issue. How many young Catholic men view that, and don’t realize that it really is pretty bad. It’s not Playboy, but Playboy is the next thing.
Billboards in bigger cities often have indecency on them. Television of all types certain has stuff that is, or borders, pornography. But even odd images everywhere, now days, often include it. Yesterday I pulled into a commercial parking lot with my wife and nine year old daughter, only to realize that the truck parked next to me featured a sticker of a topless Betty Boop. I suppose that’s supposed to be cute or something, but it’s basically pornographic.
The visual moral sewer we live in is really problematic for people who struggle with this, I’m quite sure.
