So am I, I may hold slightly different views to many about the church’s teachings, but I do not dislike the pope, he has done things I would not do, but I do not hold it against him, and I would not name him anti gay of the year. I would also not want the pope to suddenly change all the teachings of the church, it would be wrong, and also insulting to all the hard work of JPII.

You obviously aren’t the first person to be where you are. I’ve been there too but I am not now…for now. With a little soul searching, alota’ humility, time, active searching and Grace from God I came around. If we truly desire Truth…we all eventually hear and come around…hopefully before it is too late.
God’s Blessings in the New Year,
Contemplative

Most likely the first, but I have to say, people such as Cardinal O’Connor and his “controversial” views attract alot of attention, this in the eyes of an atheist teenager is translated into negative church propoganda - I do sort of understand why they have such prejudices to my religion, and I feel that showing love and trying to help them is the best way to combat my anti Catholic acquantainces.

/QUOTE]

What exactly did Cardinal O’Conner say that was incorrect?

“When Statesmen forsake their own private concious for the sake of their public duty, they lead their country, by a short route, to chaos”

-St. Thomas More in ‘A Man For All Seasons’

Great Quote!

Nothing incorrect, but do you remember Cardinal O’Connor - very conservative, didn’t care too much if Gods message upset people? Think of how an atheist teen living in “religion free” modern day England percieves his viewpoints. P atricularly when you look at the preaching styles of the bishops here, very rarely will you find a bishop speak out condemning things like Cardinal O’Connor did, to these teens, his views would be “extreme”.

I disagree, condemning immorality doesn’t make one extremist. You lost the volley on the opening sentence.

You can disagree all you want, it wont make any difference, as it is not my opinion, as I have said, it is that of some other people I know.

Some gays and lesbians think that Pope Benedict XVI is a crazy homophobe and called him a nazi. The real colors of gays and lesbians are showing. It’s like they want us to think that God must really hate homosexuals. Talk about fiction writers. They are only trying to convince. I wonder if they ever took their sexuality seriously.

This article and it’s implications are disgusting - it totally misrepresents the Pope and the teachings of the Church. The truth always offends a certain element of society. Jesus did predict that those who proclaim the gospel and it’s truths will be hated by a large portion of society - a sinful society. This is so true!

Our Pope must be doing something right.

It is not only gays and lesbians who have called the pope a nazi, some of the tabloids in England even put it on their pages in big bold letters, I mean how pathetic is that? Really, it is almost like there is nothing these papers won’t stoop too to get a story.

I concur.

I believe that the worst of the attacks on Mother Church are yet to come. I really trully believe this. Besides some world leaders like Ahmadinejad criticize and berate the Pope for his faith. Ahmadinejad is a modern Hitler in disguise.
