It is wrong for you to lust. The only time it is constituted as a mortal sin is when you acknowledge that it is a grave sin and you decide to indulge in it anyways.

Here’s a good video which goes in depth in explaining lustful sins…

God bless!

One thing that makes me ashamed about being Catholic is how so many of my fellow Catholic brothers and sisters are rude. Many of my Muslim friends would agree that asking whether something is sinful is never idiotic. Even though my Muslim brothers and sisters are of a different faith, I find many of them more respectful than the Catholics I’ve encountered. As for atheistgirl, I don’t know who she is. With her first post in this thread adding no content, I had to assume she was an infidel trolling.

Also, I grew up with Christians who belonged to very liberal denominations such as the Episcopal Church. What is sexually immoral and what’s not was very debatable growing up.
I apologize for being rude in my post. There might be someone else in this thread that deserves an apology as well.

I think you should practice what you preach. You haven’t even apologized to Atheistgirl and she did point you in the correct direction.

Please, do not accuse others on this thread of being “rude” when you, by your own admission, assumed someone was an “infidel trolling” and directly insulted her in a public forum for everyone to see. Pot, meet kettle.

But in regards to your question, it is advisable to avoid films and television programs with sexual content. Even if viewing this sort of non-pornographic content does not lead you yourself into sin, you are still putting yourself into temptation. And when we pray as our Father taught us, we specifically say “lead us not into temptation”. Best to stick to that idea. 👍

I apologize that some here have attacked you. I hope you are able to apologize for initiating the attack so early in the thread. You are in my prayers.

These boards should be a place of peace and Christ. No judgments necessary, we should leave that to Christ. The things you described are all generally the same in nature, they are a perversion of the gift of sexual desire. Pornography depicts sexual acts for the pleasure of the viewer, removing it from a self-giving act of procreation.

Pictures of naked women focus on arousing lust in the viewer, it makes the viewer see a woman as an object of pleasure, not a human being endowed with dignity from God. Movies and tv shows with sexual scences should also be avoided as much as possible. They too are created in order to arouse a feeling of sexual desire that can easily turn into lust and the temptation to sin.

I like what a former poster quoted from the bible, Jesus knows how sin works, He battled and destroyed it. He knows that even looking upon a women lustfully is wrong. Sometimes when I ponder these sins , I often wonder if lust is almost comparative to animalistic behavior. Does anyone have a comment or thought on that? The idea that lust is in itself a rejection of the diving gift of intellect and humanness and a turning to ignorance, animal desires?

Well, I would not have assumed she was a troll if she had explained that in her first post.

 I didn’t know that people had to post a disclaimer when posting. Wow. You are such a rude person. I hope that you find peace and love in your heart so you can show peace and love towards others.

So now you know…what are you going to do about it?
I thank her for providing me the information. However, you’re not expecting me to apologize for calling her an infidel, are you? Her username clearly states she’s an atheist. Don’t we refer to nonbelievers as infidels? I don’t think that’s considered a rude word in Christianity or Islam.

Okay, okay this thread is getting a little hostile.

OP- you shouldn’t have been so rude to AG.

However, I don’t think we should be rude to OP in return- is it going to help him learn to be charitable and civil?

OP- you shouldn’t be ashamed to have asked this question (though you should be for treating AG badly, acknowledge your guilt and apologize). However, people’s incredulity stems from the fact that understanding your actions as wrong is like- day one of Catholic morality. We shouldn’t have judged you for not knowing, and it’s actually quite laudable that you asked and wanted to learn. While your actions to AG are inexcusable, they did not warrant us being rude to you.
I suggest you start to study the Catechism in order to form your conscience- it’s pretty clear that (perhaps through no fault of your own) you are severely ignorant of basic stuff

AG’s first post was not a real answer. He drew a reasonable conclusion from the information he had. For those of us who are familiar with her posts and who have come to respect her, it may have seemed rude, but I do not think it was really.

People tend to like AG, so much of what you are seeing is an emotional reaction. People often defend those whom they like. I do not think you did anything so bad. And, as was already pointed out, you did well to seek knowledge of what is good.

Yeah, judging by her later posts, she seems like a helpful person. I apologize to AG if I offended her in any way.

Then maybe you should become a Muslim if they are more to your liking. 🤷

That’s fair.

I shouldn’t have just replied with one word, although many times I have, and some of you will know this is part of my style of writing.

I was incredulous that any Catholic would ask the question was it OK to watch porn if masturbation did not occur, and I guess I responded incredulously.

This was based on a few assumptions which, when I reflect a little more, I had no right to make.

I assumed the poster would have had a solid grounding in Catholic teaching and morals.

I assumed the poster would have read and studied the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

I was therefor a little confounded at the question and responded ‘seriously?’.

I should not have done this - I should have given a straight answer, or none at all.

But hey, I’m not perfect, I’m like a million miles from perfect 😛

To the OP, I strongly recommend you get a copy of the Catechism if you haven’t already done so. It’s on line of course, but it’s also one of the best, if not the best, books I’ve ever read for precision and cross referencing.

As a book, it’s simply beautiful, and having a hard copy on your shelf to pull out and read as and when is a truly satisfying experience.

It also covers most anything you could ever even think of

Now, moving on, as to your other questions - what are we talking about here? Portraits by the Masters in an Art Gallery, or Playboy?

There’s a significant difference.

It also occurs to me I don’t know your age, or anything else about your lifestyle.

I would suggest talking to your confessor.

Because while the Church has defined certain things like pornography as a sin against Chastity, and masturbation as gravely disordered, your specific level of sin, or sinning, can only be determined by your Priest, who will be better able to assess your individual culpability since it’s not as simple as saying I masturbated therefor I’ve committed a mortal sin.

Levels of addiction, age, medical conditions, emotional maturity all play a part in determining to what degree you’ve sinned, assuming you have sinned and only your Priest can determine that and give you penance and absolution.

I would also say by exposing yourself to films where you know ahead of time there might well be adult content of a sexual nature, is at the very least putting yourself in a near occasion of sin.

Again, why are you watching? For sexual excitement? What happens then?

I would suggest staying away from this stuff but I know from the gazillion threads here it’s not easy.

Good luck with it all.

I can’t since Islam denies that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

However, I really appreciate how Muslims are more adamant about enforcing moral laws and showing kindness.

You haven’t offended me.

I should have given you a proper response and not been incredulous.

I hope the answers your getting from others here who know their faith are making things clearer for you.

:hug1:
