Water poured into the wine

I was wondering if the water used for “ablution” of the wine MUST be holy water. I have assumed for years it could be plain old tap water.

It’s plain tap water. The priest doesn’t wash his hands with holy water and it’s from the same cruet as that used in the wine. Don’t think ‘ablution’ is the word you’re looking for.

I was told today by someone that I shouldn’t have used tap water…I thought I was right but one must be open to learning new things. I have actually used tap waterr for years.

It’s tap water or bottled water. We have a water cooler so that is used for the cruets, which includes the water used when the priest washes his hands & purifies the vessels after communion.

We use tap water all the time. It must be a local thing then. Most parishes I know use plain tap water.

I’ve heard that our late pope JPII was a fan of spring water for his Masses. After all, how could he not like Poland Spiring?

As a trained pre-Vatican II altar boy I can attest authoritatively that we were taught to use ordinary tap water.
