I believe the Way of the Master would be a great tool for all christians to learn and use.Its biblical and effective and its how Christ evangelized. I believe that the great commission was for all christians to obey. That was the reason Christ came,to save the lost. That is also our call as christians.

Great Answer and you are 100% correct and so Jesus left us the Church so that we can be ONE, not 32,000. So that we may be unified and not divided into 32,000 denominations.

Hi mastda. As I have learned on these forums, people want fact. Please validate/prove your claim of 32,000 denominations. How about a list?

Malachi, I will not answer your question until you first answer mine. Especially after re reading your first post on this forum. You came on this forum espousing that as a Catholic you lead the life of a drunkard and a fornicator and all your catholic friends did as well and every catholic you met was a like you. The reason your name stuck out is because you insinuated in your forum that all catholics are like this. You were insinuating that priest tell their people to act like this. I can proudly say that as a catholic who left the church in 1989, I left for the pull of the some very overzealous business people and the Word Of Faith Movement. Up until then I was raised in a full Catholic Home. I married as a virgin and I married a virgin. There was never any pornography in my home and there was never any foul language used (OK my dad a few times when telemarketers called during dinner.😃 )We always had wine around as we are an Italian family but I never once saw my mom or dad drunk. I never swore or used the lords name in vain. My mom and dad took me and my sister arm in arm to mass every Sunday. When you insult Catholics you put down heroes like my mom and dad. You put down heroes like Mother Theresa. You put down heroes like priests and nuns who are in Third World Countries holding babies and adults with AIDS and other dreaded diseases. Catholics missionaries who are giving aid to these poor children of God.

There has been 3 malach’s since you joined, the first was a person who came out so judgemental and attacked everything we did. The person who tried to cast other people’s writings as his own but got caught. Then it appeared you were a little humbled by the experience of actually meeting some knowledgeable catholics that you started to lay off the attacks and I thought were humbly asking some educated questions about the Catholic Faith. Then the 3rd person who sprouted up about 2 weeks ago and started attacking again but saying how he loved us Catholics and so do the Van Impe’s and the LaHayes. Unless you can prove to me you were once a devout practicing Catholic and you had a discussion with someone knowledgeable in the Catholic Faith before you left and you give me a chronoligical timeline, I will only continue to think that you are a very decietful person, snake like.

Hi mastda, up late in your part of the country. I do not know what this has to do with the Way of The Master Thread. I have not started “attacking again”. Not in the least. I admit, when I first came on I was, in my eyes, attacking from a defensive position. I was given some things to think about. I thought about them. I am still humble. I have not come back to “attack”, where have I done this. I have debated on various threads,…used some forum humor mixed with arrogance that I observe as appropriate, but not attack. Wow, mastda just relax. Pray for temperance, long suffering…these are fruit of the Spirit. 😃

You told me to stop with all the Love stuff. I expect that kind of sentiment from Satan, not a Christian. I am confused?

But I still love you mastda, I really do. What do you want me to do. Scan my Baptismal Certificate? My Confirmation Certificate? My Marriage Certificate? Not sure what you are looking for? Believe it or not my story of my life is just that. Yes all those things were what I partook of with my Catholic friends. Ones that I went to school with etc… But I met allot of Catholics in the Bars. They were promiscuous yes. FACT. If you don’t like it I am sorry. A Priest told me sh*t happens, went I went for guidance. You don’t like that? Oh well. Here is one you will not like. After my Catholic wife had an affair on me (with her Boss, they use to car pool…I had raised some concern just given if it was appropriate or not, but was told not to worry)…opps. Anyway, after that I drown myself into the bar scene. Worked at various nightclubs. And guess who comes in one night with a bunch of ladies…a Priest from the parish that married me. He partied up a storm in the bar. He had a red 5 litre Mustang GT. Maybe you don’t like hearing that…but it is true.

Perhaps why I am a Fundamentalist now. Lets see, people in my congregation do scripture printing on Tuesdays, or door to door witnessing. Wednesday is Bible Study and prayer group. Sunday 10 -11 Sunday School, 11- 12:30 morning service, Sunday 5 - 6:30 evening service. Every 4th Monday men’s meeting…and so on. No Mustang, no bars, no night club scene. You might not like it but it is true. If you PM me I can tell you the church I was married in. You can call them and ask them if they ever had a priest with a 5 litre Mustang GT. PM me. It was red. So I guess the last person of Catholic Faith (aside from layman) I spoke to was a Priest who told me sh*t happens in response to guidance on how to handle this whole Adultery thing. The other part was about the annulment fee. As far as all my other Catholics I know. Lets see a few of them fought in court over millions in estate money. Some aren’t talking to others and got lawyers over this and that. These are the Catholics I know. One sister in law got a lawyer over her brother in law as he was executor. His brother got a lawyer as well. Others would fly a far distant to visit a dieing millionaire, but wouldn’t phone their brother in town who was on public assistance? Doesn’t the Bible say not to sue your brother? Perhaps that is just for us Protestants to follow. Perhaps Protestants are this bad as well, I do not know. I have only been one for 2 years. As a matter of fact, it will be 2 years ago I was “Born Again” (Mar 1…two years ago was Feb 29th leap year I think)…No Protestants I know act like this, however I have been in small fundamental circles.

Sorry if you didn’t like every thing you read, but you asked. I do know one other thing. A certain individual I knew who was dieing of AIDS went to a priest for guidance. He was told he got himself into his own mess…whatelse did he want? That was told from him to me. So it is second hand. However, in his ill frail state, his old church wanted nothing to do with him. He was Catholic. He was gay (I think he never told me, from his friends etc…I would assume he was gay). He was an alterboy. I always wondered if that had anything to do with it. Do you want me to send you his obituary?

Remember, you asked me to bring this all up. I had no intent to. I do not like it. I am not proud of it and it upsets me. I follow fruit. Jesus said we can know a good tree by it’s fruit.

Now I guess you will provide me with your proof on 32,000 denominations. You stated it, please back it up. Unless it is a lie. I look forward to your reply.

Heard Kirk Cameron say one of his check list points it to point out that your not saved by any denomination but only by being born again - naturally though the sinners prayer in a fundamentalist formula. This is an obvious dig at Catholcism which says in essence you must be part of its denomantion in order to saved - with certain theological exceptions of course.
I am sure he doing his things with honest convvicitons and means no harm or malice. But he still doesn’t have the fullnees of the faith and any catholic he leads into fundamentalism is cause for concern.
As for his tactics on getting people saved, he seems to me to come off awfully hard and self righteous and yes its the gotcha game of your a sinner and your going to hell now are what you going to do?
That is not to say some people don’t need this tactic as some do but he uses this tactic across the board and will clearly turn some people away from God rather than turn to God.
You need to use different tactics with different people plain and simple but fundamentalist seem to put everything into clean simple formulas when reality calls for nuance and plain common sense and thinking on your feet.
For instance I think talking to a young girl who just had an abortion I wouldn’t do the quiz show he does “Well young lady are you a murderer? Bible says your going to hell for being a lieing, theiving, adluterer, murderer!” Real turnoff many of these young women need to know God’s mercy and that even this can be forgiven and not some checklist of sins. And that is not to say some people don’t need a checklist somtimes, they do but it can’t be used on everyone, and everytime.

I have heard testimonies of those in the abortion industry who converted to pro-life christiantiy in every case they converted not because of a checklist of sins via Kirk Cameron but the constant witness of nonviolent peaceful protest out of a love of life.
If they were to be confronted by Kirk Cameron and his friend Ray they would only have stayed in the abortion industry.

I don’t think that’s fair. There are plenty of people in the catholic church who feel this way about the church. I was one of them and I know a few of them now. At the age of 16, I used these same complaints to bring my whole my family out of the catholic church. Obviously, my parents didn’t know any better than me.

In fact, being poorly catechized seems to be the norm. I left the church ten years ago, and now that I am returning I am daily amazed by how little I understood. And I am not the exception, I constantly run into ignorant catholics in my new parish.

One of these days, try going up to 10 randomly selected people in your parish and ask them the difference between the virgin birth and the immaculate conception, and see how many of them give you the right answer.

Well mastda. I think you need a bit of The Way of The Master. The law to the proud. Have you ever lied? Have you ever stolen? Have you ever hated? Jesus said hating your Brother is commiting murder in the heart. Have you ever lusted? Jesus said if you look upon a woman with lust you have committed adultery already in your heart.

We are all sinners mastda. Some know it and accept Jesus’ sacrificial atonement to cleanse us. Some don’t.

I am now going to watch some Way of The Master on DVD. 😃

I still love you mastda. But I know why I and this thread bothers you. 😉

Did you just type in ‘pride’ on a bible translation site and proceed to copy and paste? That’s hardly even a response to what he was talking about. He meant that you forgot people who did live righteously and by making a blanket statement you only serve to discredit yourself. I highly doubt anything he said was out of pride.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Actually, the figures come from a protestant book. David Barrett compiled a list of the denominations and enumerated them in the Word Christian Encyclopedia.

Hello malachi, I was like you also at one time. And I share your love of Jesus and want to bring others closer to Him.

The 32,000 number is out of a non-catholic book, which I really try to stress to people not to quote because it is problematic.
In that instead of focusing on the problem of private interpretation that leads to divisions in denominations it leads to a discussion on whether that number is factual or not. It is much more truthful and honest to just say that there are countless divisions which are a scandal and should be denounced.

We should be of one accord, one faith, one baptism one Church. This is difficult for many non-catholics as Catholics sometimes are the worst example of Christians as many of them are just cultural Catholics. Not people who have had a sincere conversion and now exemplify Christianity.

I can assure you that there are many sinful Catholics as you have seen, but they are not faithfully being Christians. Most people who have conversions to Christ, regardless of denomination or affiliation are much better examples of Christians. You have experienced this and see it all the time, but does that mean that that particular interpretation is correct?

If I have a conversion to Jehovah’s Witnesses and stop drinking, study the Bible and now am faithful to my wife is that the result of the whole understanding of faith Jehovah’s Witnesses have? Or is it the result of the bit of truth that is in that particular sect? It is because of the truth (what little that is) in their beliefs. They read the Bible, love God(Jehovah) even though He is pretty angry in their belief system and follow Him as best as possible.
(now I chose JW’s as an example to be the most extreme example possible)
Does this make their interpretation the correct one?

What struggle? You just say a prayer and bingo your saved, your past, present and future sins all gone away no need to further repent or confess future sins.
