I can honestly say I’ve never flagged anyone on here. Been flagged many times myself, and a lot of the times for petty things. The last one was completely mind boggling to me. I have never seen a post that was so over the top that I just had to flag it. I guess I’m pretty thick skinned or something. Someone up thread stated that some people throw flags here like they were confetti. A completely accurate assessment IMO.

I’d really like to know just who exactly is being referred to when folks say “Some people throw flags like confetti.” Because unless someone is announcing, “I just flagged this post” you have absolutely no idea who flagged, how many people flagged, whether it was 2 people or 10 people, or whether it was from somebody who runs out of flags daily or who leaves 2 flags a year.

It seems like people just like to speculate and make assumptions on almost no information.

Yeah, I was thinking that earlier. Multiple flags do not necessarily mean suspension if the mods decide the post is fine. Someone that endlessly flags people when nothing is wrong will get reprimanded as far as I know. People that flag only one person, aka stalking for no good reason might get in trouble too.

People love to act like they said nothing wrong when in fact, if they get a post removed, the mods agreed with the person that flagged it. So, some people just don’t realize how offensive they can be. People constantly say I got a post removed and I didn’t say anything wrong. I am not inclined to believe that.

Also, we have a limited, not unlimited number of flags a day. I don’t know how many we get, but we can’t “throw flags around like confetti.” I don’t know how anyone came to that conclusion either.

And for those who say people are easily offended, again, the mods are agreeing. How about people control the snark, the outright insults and everything else and be civilized. Can’t that happen on a Catholic site?

Take this thread for example. It’s just people offering their opinions on how to improve CAF. Now scroll back to post #54. Now what’s the next post you see?
This topic is temporarily closed for at least 4 hours due to a large number of community flags.
Say what??? How can someone be offended by a thread such as this? Forum members simply offering their opinions. Mind boggling!

The assumption is based on innocuous (or, at worst, very very mild) posts disappearing with some regularity. The only assumption one can make is that some people are throwing flags at the drop of a hat.

Again, this isn’t a veiled reference to anyone in this thread. I’d name names if I had them; I’m not generally a passive-aggressive person. There’s no way to tell who is doing it, but people clearly are, unless the mods are doing it sua sponte, which I doubt.

Sometimes posts disappear because mods have removed a whole discussion, including some innocuous responses along with the original violating post.

Also, what one person thinks is “innocuous”, another person doesn’t, or there’s some other circumstance like it’s the third repost of the same topic by a poster, or it’s the 4th return of a banned poster who was banned for good reason.
