I’m inclined to think that, given the remarkable willingness of Catholics in general to go along with whatever secular agenda is currently being preached, actual persecution may not be necessary.
Good point…it might be that some who downplay the persecution of a Harris/Biden regime might, in fact, agree with the ideology of that persecution.

Yes, they might believe that accepting Catholic moral teaching–which will not change–must now be considered “hate speech.”

Exactly.
The hideous truth is that we are not a threat. We are their support.

There’s a quote from William Burroughs on something like that. “The perfect police state needs no police.”

Yes, the citizens report each other. Kids rat out their parents. Big Brother is watching.

If it happens, it happens.

Think of it as a refining fire. I have heard of Christians around the world praying for our persecution. To them it will do the Church here a lot of good.

There are Catholics who are severely persecuted these days but they live in China, the Middle East or Africa.
This is an excellent point. It’s very First World of us to scream “Persecution!” when we’ve barely gotten a taste of what real persecution looks like. There have been laws worth challenging and weird prejudices against Catholics from politicians and celebrities. But maybe it would do us some good to kneel and give thanks that we’re not getting fed to lions.

Crisis magazine style Catholics have been fantasizing about coming persecutions for years.

Reminds me of this gem from the aughts:

Remind me again how that one turned out?
I’d make the point that persecution is a sure thing in the life of the Church. From the beginning the Church and the world are radically at odds, however you want to define the world. If it weren’t inherent in the institution, then we wouldn’t have the cross. And the Christian life goes through the cross, non-negotiably.
In times when the Church and the world are comfortable together, is it fair to say we have a dearth of holiness and virtue?

We will have our turn. Maybe not you and I, but at some point probably our children’s generation. I predict no more than 20 years and the Church in US will be persecuted.
First will go insurance exceptions
Then tax exemption
Then the restricted use of facilities (weddings etc…will be forced for anyone who demands it)
Then freedom of expression (homilies and dogmatic language as hate speech)

The media is already lining up to show us the difference between good Catholics and hateful intolerant Catholics.
(sarcasm alert)
David Muir just the other day almost got a tear in his eye talking about the Pope’s endorsement, er…congratulatory phone call, to Biden.

C’mon, we all know that real Catholics are not the loud and nasty pro lifers and and anti marriage and anti women’s health crowd. Those Catholics are not really the Church. They shouldn’t be allowed to dictate the Church’s assets and usage of facilities! The real Church doesn’t draw lines at women’s health care and marriage for all.

The Church (all of us me included) has been playing footsie with a culture that is going to run it over and not look back.
