They are waaaaaaaay more important issues in the world than the Latin mass.

Since the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is where we get the Eucharist, and with the Eucharist being the Source and Summit of our Faith, combined with the fact that the EF of the Mass was of obvious importance to Pope Benedict, the thoughts of our new Holy Father regarding the Mass are of interest to many. In addition, we have Bishops like Archbishop Sample and others saying things like:

I am solidly convinced that an authentic and faithful renewal and reform of the sacred liturgy is not only part of the New Evangelization — it is essential to its fruitfulness. The liturgy has the power to form and transform the Catholic faithful. We must live by the axiom lex orandi, lex credendi (the law of praying is the law of believing). What we celebrate in the Mass expresses the essential content of the faith, and it also reinforces our faith when celebrated well and with fidelity.

The liturgy both teaches us and expresses what we believe. If we do not get the sacred liturgy right, I fear that we will just be spinning our wheels rather than getting the New Evangelization going in the right direction. If we are transformed by the sacred liturgy, then we, as believers, can help transform the culture.

So, while you may not find the thoughts of our Holy Father on the Mass to be of primary importance, many others do.

just sad that I was at work and didn’t get to watch it live. I couldn’t wait to listen on the radio.

I chose St. Francis as my patron when I converted in 2011, so excited that His Holiness chose Francis!!!

Hence the fear…this sounds to me like a man who wants to spend his time pilgrimaging to Africa and India to support the poor and not one who has much interest in shaming the errant members of Western congregations into returning to Orthodoxy. Not that we should be supporting the poor (particularly the truly poor we find outside of developed nations)…only that I think combatting the sin and immorality is more pressing.

Maybe this is God’s way of calling us to stop focusing on the shaming and start focusing on being living examples of the gospel!

Maybe this is God’s way of calling us to stop focusing on the shaming and start focusing on being living examples of the gospel!

We should always lead exemplary lives according to the Gospel, but do you really think that will stop other people from straying? I don’t.

I would say, Francis Xavier, a co-founder of the Jesuit Order. It would seem strange to me if a Jesuit took the name of Francis of Assisi; you might wonder then why he became a Jesuit instead of a Franciscan.

I know a Benedictine Monk who just took St. Francis of Assisi as his patron for his vows as a novice, and for his new name as a monk. Its not that uncommon really.

Well, the Pope has to watch out for the global church. It’s pretty clear where the Pope stands on matters of Orthodoxy and he can’t overlook every diocese personally. Much of this falls on the Bishops and priests to push.

Enough to know it has lost its catholic identity. Many good Jesuits, like Fr. Mitch Pacwa and apparently the Holy Father, but Georgetown has lost its way.

You know Fr. Pacwa? Isn’t he a sweet heart? We see him ever once and awhile att the Jesuit school where I work. There are many more Jesuit like him than the ones at GT.

I am not a Catholic but this entire event has me happy, excited and in tears. Just watching and hearing about the man and his life is heart warming. I think the Holy Spirit proved that the Lord has the final word and not political influence or personal wants of people. Bless this man and prayers for him and a long healthy time in his role as Pope. I may be one step closer to finding my way home seeing all the love the Church has for everyone . This is very heart moving moment in time.

Is anyone else excited about his commitment to work for peace and the poor?

I find that we often overlook goals like peace and caring for the poor here on CAF. There was even one thread where posters were arguing that war is inevitable, let’s not even try to prevent it…

Most Jesuit high school in the US require all students to do community service. Senior must do 100 hours or they cannot graduate even if they are top in their class. Most of the student do many more hour on their own. Student travel all over the world on mission trips to feed the poor, bring medicine to those in Africa, Honduras, Mexico.

The Jesuit school I work at is an all boys school and those boys make me very proud to work there!!!

Mine too, along with St. Faustina. (Faustina Francis) They were the first two Catholic saints (althought Faustina wasn’t a saint yet at the time) that I heard about years ago.

Perhaps the Lord doesnt want a vicar who has “much interest in shaming the errant members of Western congregations into returning to Orthodoxy.” at this point in time.
