Why? She’s not actually a judge 😉
I thought you would get the point that I was referring to the court room. There are certain dress codes that one must abide by when they go to court. And I’m sure that most judges would ask that a person wearing a to remove it, unless for some good reason such as a religious garb or some medical reason.

1 Corinthians 11 : 4 - 5 “Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head…”
7. " A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man."
Not quite, I’ve actually recently written an exegetical paper on that specific pericope and it seems there’s a pretty strong, although not absolute, consensus (more clear in the Greek idiomatically - same thing in the Pshitta) that the covering of one’s head refers to long hair. It is a Western lay custom for men to take hats off their heads in church, otherwise this passage would would preclude any kind of ecclesial headgear (miter, biretta, zucchetto to name the Latin ones) - if you’ve ever seen a Syriac and Armenian liturgy, a monk or bishop’s hood remains up the entire time from start to finish.

Anyway, on topic - yes, they should have removed their hats out of respect for the church. Now, as for it being a problem of the youth, as one said, I’ve seen more young ladies cover their heads and young men dress respectfully than those of middle age (as the OP ID’d the age of the individuals) in the US. That being said, that is general custom. Perhaps they have cancer or a terrible skin disease that has remove the skin off the top of their heads and cover them with hats to prevent infection. Perhaps it’s a bit of naivety, but if I don’t find something particularly malicious I don’t give much mind to it in church. 🤷

I was playing. I would classify a courtroom as one of those formal situations that still calls for no hat.

This is where the Church got it’s rules…:byzsoc: :signofcross:
Wow, and to think those nuns made my sister keep her head covered with a scarf during mass many years ago. Little did they know they were counter to Corinthians and in sin. Yikes!

I think you read that backward… women today are the ones sinning according to Corinthians. As are most bishops, cardinals and even the pope.

Read it again…the nuns were following Corinthians.

After reading other people’s comments, I don’t think the head being covered or not applies any longer to us in the Catholic Church.

Common manners has men removing hats when they are in a public place & respect for God’s presence at Mass.

I would think there is an exception for a medical condition.

I mean the episcopate get to wear mitres, and women can wear head scarves, why shouldn’t lay men get to wear something? Especially with male pattern baldness on the rise. 😉
Don’t some monks wear hoodies to cover their heads?

To say nothing of the Knights of Columbus Honor Guards!

Right. Nothing like announcing to the world you have a medical condition. 🙂
Usually wearing a cap for those that would do so with a medical condition is less of an announcement than NOT wearing the cap.

Someone in an earlier post mentioned this as a reason for wearing a cap…don’t blame me. 😛
I know but when you allow for exceptions, people may think that that’s the only reason for wearing them. My preference would be to allow them universally, as long as it’s in good taste and not too distracting. If we allow t-shirts and shorts, what’s wrong with caps?

For some reason, baseball caps help you capsize your strength. The person might be having a hard time understanding the mass, without His psychological wardrobe.

Even that has always been taken as an ideal, not as a command. Clergy have worn birettas and zucchettos during Mass for centuries, and the bishops will wear their miters during the Gospel.
The Bishop does not wear his miter during the gospel.

From what I have been told by someone who has authority, there is no dress code in the CC. As long as you are wearing clothes, it is good. 🙂

Right. The respect we show is not about God loving us as we are. The respect we show is about how much we love God.

I get very bored whilst at Mass as no one is giving me the attention I deserve. So I tend to spend my time looking at what people wear, who they talk to and any particular mannerisms etc. It passes the time. When Mass is over, I like to go with the people to where the tea and cake is so I can watch them a while before I join the herd to the car park where I ruthlessly attempt to be the first out. I like cake. People are so disrespectful at Mass in what they wear. I am personally outraged but I offer it up for the reparation of the sins of so many around me.

It’s settled then, have the men give their baseball caps to the women.
