You know, it might just be better to let the woman do what she wants.
If the bride and groom are not opposing her, I’d let it go.

Whoever knows you will know that you’re not responsible for her plans and behavior.

Just remember at the rehearsal dinner, as the speeches and toasts are coming to a close, to have your daughter get up and thank everyone, and thank her FMIL, “who planned this whole night. It was more than I could ever imagine”
“who planned this whole night. It was more than I could ever imagine - so very sorry we won’t be seeing some of you at the wedding.”

Evil, evil, evil… 🙂 and very funny.

They are horrified; they just have to decide if this is a battle they choose to fight. I suspect future sil will speak up; he has a very hard-won backbone.

Good luck! Why do weddings have to be such a nightmare??

Gosh, I wish I knew! All the emotion, tradition, etc., I guess.

In this case I think there is some “one ups-manship”, as well. I had been warned that she might try to upstage us (her modus operandi) but didnt’t really think she’d pull something so outrageous. I can just imagine if it were her DAUGHTER being married and I tried something she didn’t approve of - WHOA!
