Hello! I was sitting here at my computer feeling so hopeless and looking up all sorts of appetite suppressants and weight loss pills, and not finding good reviews for any of them. I KNOW that there is no quick fix, but it’s just so tempting to keep looking.
I am currently at 195 and, at my height, I should be around 140-150. I can’t remember the last time the scale even said 175!!! I have three children (all under 3 years!) and I would love to blame 3 pregnancies in 2 years for all the extra weight, but it was there before I ever got married. My problem isn’t knowing what to eat (I majored in Nutrition in college thinking I could heal myself LOL) it’s how I eat. I use food as a drug, as as comfort, as a punishment for myself, as…well, food is a false god for me. It’s weird because I have such a wonderful, blessed life, and yet, I just can’t stop bingeing. I always seem to be more healthy during pregnancy, and lose a lot of weight when the baby is born, then just balloon up around the 2nd month post-birth and keep going from there.
I saw some of you discussing the Light Weigh. It is amazing!!! I think it is really going to be the answer for me. The problem is that the meetings are crucial and everyone in my group is so busy that no one ever shows up regularly. And, I’m just too weak to do it on my own. I need the interaction with others. I just wonder what Suzanne would say about some of us doing it in an online format. Maybe I’ll contact her. It is just the greatest program and it’s so much more than just weight loss. It’s about this wonderful spiritual journey. There are no diet plans, no restricted foods, no calorie counting. She’s a mother of 8, so you know she didn’t have time for all that!!!
Anyway, I have spilled my guts here and I don’t even know if any of this made any sense, but thanks for reading it. I am excited to join this thread and I hope we can all encourage and motivate each other. This week, I’m going to offer up snacking between meals for my sister in law and her husband who are having problems.
God bless you all,

Just thought I would throw in with everyone. My fiance and I started loosing weight a month ago, I started at 297, I am 6’4" and medium frame. She is 5’6" and started at 230, she is also medium framed. Since starting on 1-20-2008 I have gone from 297 to 268, she has gone from 230 down to 217. That is a loss of 29lbs and 13lbs respectivly. We have accomplished this so far by cutting our caloric intake, we haven’t added working out to the mix quite yet. I have had the tests and my natural metabolism burns 3100 calories a day (on a side note it takes burning 3500 calories to burn 1lb of fat), her metabolism burns 2700 calories a day. So I am eating about 900 to 1000 calories a day, and she is eating about 1000 to 1200 calories a day. I have everything charted and graphed so that we can keep on goal, and we weigh ourselves everyday. My goal is to get down to 180lbs (and then put on 15lbs of muscle mass), and hers is to get down to 140 to 150lbs. At our current rate of loss, I will reach my goal by May the 10th and she will reach hers by June the 5th. Just thought I would put in what we are doing.

Hey, can I join you guys? I need all the help I can get.
I need to lose about 80 pounds.
I’ve tried South Beach, which is good and I lost quite a few pounds but it’s expensive and requires me to do alot of cooking. I don’t mind cooking, I just don’t want to have to do it for every meal everyday.
I’ll read each post more thoughly tomorrow, I should have been in bed an hour ago.

Good job on your start. Just be aware that unless you up your calories at some point and add some exercise to compensate that your body will go into “starvation mode” and stop losing weight. I found that after about 4 months of steady weight loss while eating about 1000-1200 calories per day and exercising that I had to up my calories for one month and then drop them back down again. It is really hard to keep weight off when you don’t change your lifestyle by adding more exercise because eventually you will get tired of such a low calorie menu.

Also make sure that you guys take a good multivitamin (different for each of you given your gender and age) since there is no way to get all of your proper vitamins/minerals with such a low calorie count.

Best wishes on your journey together. Be happy that you have some support system with each other. My friends always want to eat out. Not helpful.

God bless you all,
Annie,

I feel you and I are the same breed. I had abandoned all of my emotional eating habits (mostly) after my daughter was born in 1995. I lost 70lbs and then kept it off after three more babies (two of which were twins). Then, in 2005, my Dad was hospitalized for 5 months and then died. My faith was strong, but instead of leaning on God only, I returned to my childhood habit of food for comfort. Not only that, but I had kept my weight at 135lb by working out at least an hour 5 days a week. The exercise was a privelege I did not have while caring for my sick father, four children, my husband, my house and working a stress filled job. I also started an antidepressant to keep from going back to another adolescent or early 20’s habit, alcohol. I gained 30lbs in a short while. I then became pregnant with my fifth child in Dec. of 2005. Now, my son is 17 months and I still weigh 177 instead of 135lbs. Worse than that, I just bought new scales and they say I am 40% fat! I have been doing hour long The Firm workouts since Lent started 5 to 6 times per week. I must have been half fat before that! I wear a size 12 or 14 so I have been kidding myself that I wasn’t really that big. I usually wear a 6 or 8. Anyway, I am still doing the emotional eating. To my knowledge, there are no Light Weigh groups in my area. I have looked a little about it on line, but isn’t is expensive? Well, just felt we were kindred spirits and wanted to post my poor pitiful me story:o ! I posted earlier about my plan during Lent and I am sticking to it, mostly! God Bless,
Jennifer

Oh I completely understand what you are saying. We are both taking a multivitamins, one for males one for females, and I will actually be adding in a workout of 30min a day 6 days a week as of tomorrow. The only reason I haven’t been working out yet is I wanted the first month as a scientific control, more like a baseline for the weight loss. I will be slowly adding more caloric intake every month, on the order of 100 to 200 more calories per day. Plus we do eat out on Saturday’s and basically splurge for the day, we eat normal for breakfast and lunch and then go out to dinner and basically eat enough not to gain or loose anything.

Xander,

You and your wife are very inspiring to me. My husband called earlier to tell me that Wii is coming out with Wii Fit in May of this year and a Wii Fit Channel would be added. My children have the Wii system and we enjoy the interactive games. This new “game” will have exercises and track your progress. I need to lose 42lbs. and my husband about 20lbs. Can you tell me how you received the tests for your metabolism?

We had our tests run by our Doctor, I am not 100% sure of what he did 🙂 But at this point we have been loosing round about 7 to 10lbs a week, it takes dedication, but we want to be fit and in shape before we have a child soon. I will say this it takes the dedication of both to make it work, we encourage each other to keep going, she needs to be lower in weight than 150 but she says she will feel more comfortable at 150 and I will encourage her to get there. I just don’t want the dangers of her being overweight and that causing problems with our pregnancy.

Sounds like a responsible approach before a pregnancy. It seemed to me that losing weight always increased my fertility (i.e. lose some weight, end up pregnant), but I am not sure if it was medical or more to due with hubby! 😊

HAHA, well we are planning on having a little one soon, so we will need all the energy we can get!! It has been a great experience , and the end result will be healthy bodies, and the other thing is the moment we get down to the proper weight will will immediately start trying for a child.

Did anyone watch the show “I can make you Thin” last night?
DH & I watched it and we are going to give it a go! I saw many characteristics in myself that he pointed out.
  1. I eat WAY too fast!
  2. I always eat with the TV on. We eat every meal at the table, so I don’t eat sitting on the couch watching TV, although the TV is always on, so we started turning it off while we eat.
  3. I eat till I am stuffed! I don’t really notice I am stuffed until about 5 minutes after I have finished my plate (or 2) full of food.
Anyway, I thought the show pointed out some of the basics that I know I see in myself. So we are going to give it a go and see if changing our eating patterns will help us lose some of the weight we need to.

OK…my diet effort actually started about a year and a half ago. It took me almost 7 months to hit my goal of losing 15 lbs. and then circumstances led me to lose another 10 over the next 4 months. I’ve managed to maintain this weight loss for the last 5 months. Last week I went out and bought new swim suits for our upcoming family spring break trip for the first time in about 3 years and actually had fun doing it!! I even bought a two piece~something I wouldn’t have considered for a minute before this! So, ladies (and gents)…it CAN be done!!

I totally agree with you Lexee. I’m also trying to lose weight and it seems (name removed by moderator)ossible, because I have asthma and Rhumatiod Arthitis. Which doesn’t help at all, I am so tired because of the RA and working full time. I don’t have no motivation to go to the gym. I do have a membership, but by the time that I get out of work I am tired and my joints hurt. What can I do? On top of it all I am Puerto Rican which we can eat, and our foods are rice, and fried foods. I haven’t found any recipes that are similiar of what I eat, or have found any puerto rican foods cooked lighter. What can a latina do?

God Bless,

Gladys

Light Weigh !!!

I don’t know if anyone has posted about this yet, but there is a fantastic program called LIGHT WEIGH that is designed to help people get to their healthy weight. The program is for both people who are overweight and for those who are struggling with eating disorders. The program takes a SPIRITUAL APPROACH. It is designed to get people to look at food in a new way. The woman who deisned this program, Suzanne Fowler, has been on EWTN’s “Life on the Rock” numerous times. So her methods are definitely legit. Here’s the website. Check it out!

Congrats on your weight loss.👍

All complexes you have with your body come up when you’re bikini shopping, I know. So to do that and feel good about it sounds great.🙂

My goal was to lose 18 pounds, of which I now have lost 7.5.
I’m hoping to lose the rest before the “bikini season”.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING ABOUT THIS!!

It was perfect timing… My sister also mentioned it to me and the guy on the show was on Ellen yesterday. I was just walking by the tv and they mentioned it so I stopped. I’ve set my dvr to record it and am hopeful for the first time in a while…
🙂

Hi all… was hopeing to join this thread. I am pregnant so cant try to lose weight but I can try to improve my bad habbits while preggers. Also dont want to gain to much with this one. So right now I am working on picking healthier choices (eating for nutrition) and binge eating. Which did not go well a lunch today…in the past that would of been the go ahead to eat badly all day…today i will keep on trying to be healthy.
