We're definitely moving back to PA

*Hello…just wanted to share that we are definitely going to move back to PA. Done decision. Next summer, is our ‘d’ day. DH and I have prayed about it, and frankly, I’m not sure why God brought us here to FL. Maybe it will be revealed to me someday…but for now, this is what we’re doing. Unless God wants us to stay, but I’m not seeing signs, really. I also won’t go on saying ‘‘we should never have moved here,’’ because it’s not productive, and we followed God’s will. And there are things we greatly like here, but Florida will never be “home.” I think to live with regrets is wrong. It is hard to not look at this though, as a waste of time, energy, and money…all that it took to move to Florida…the sacrifices. 🤷

Thanks to you ALL for praying and helping me to think this through.

I’d like to ask for your prayers, as we journey towards making this decision a reality. Lots to do to get ready to move AGAIN. Thanks in advance, for your prayers. :grouphug:*

Lots of prayers for you and your family on your up-coming journey back north! You have obviously put a lot of discussion and prayer into this. God has so many uses for you, no matter what state you are in and he will continue to use you for your duration in Florida and when you move back up to PA.
 
We may never understand why God leads us to certain places in life - but we do know that if He’s driving the car then we’re going in the right direction! 😃

You never know… if you DIDN’T come to FL maybe you wouldn’t have the same appreciation for “home”… maybe your DH could have lost his old job… maybe your kids could have been caught up in the wrong groups at school… maybe… maybe… maybe… there are TONS of reasons why God could have potentially directed you to FL when you needed it most. 😉

But now, he’s calling you back! 🙂 I’m so happy you’re at peace with your decisions and have prayed so hard! (((HUGS))) and may God be with you on your next adventure back in PA! 🙂

And hurry up and move…maybe if your in PA soon the Phillies will come back!
 
I’m sure it’s a good feeling to have a decision made. PA here you come!
 
*I long to go to a traditional mass in Pittsburgh. I can weather a lot of changes, but that is something that we have missed greatly…and perhaps, took for granted up in Pittsburgh. *

hahaha That’s funny. You know, a poster here told me recently about a philosopher who coined the phrase…’‘you can’t step into the same river twice.’’ That is true. I don’t have any preconceived notions about Pittsburgh–we will meet new people, have a new neighborhood…nothing will be ‘‘the same.’’ I think that is what the quote means…that you ‘‘go back’’ and think that everything will be as you left it. Like a river always changes, you know?

It is good to have come to a decision. I think that it’s been good in a lot of ways, but Florida is transient. Too transient. Even we felt like we were floating the whole time we have been here. Thanks 1ke!
 
The novel, by Thomas Wolfe, is about a writer who writes a vicious and satirical story about his town, then goes home and expects the town to be just fine with it. Obviously, they hate him. He seems surprised by this. Thomas Wolfe is an overrated author, (and my English BA is compltely worthless).

You CAN go home again. Maybe not put your feet in the same river, and some things might have changed, but it’ll always be YOUR home town/state/or area. That counts for alot of things.
 
I have followed your story with great interest and want to say - congratulations on making a tough decision and standing up for what you believe in.

My wife and I have faced similar circumstances - opportunity to leave for work with much better pay - and haven’t left “home” either - probably based on the same reasons you have for PA.

Being your neighbor in Upstate NY - you’re going to a better situation in PA than we are here economy wise - but probably not as “glamorous” as some folks might view Florida as.

For us our decision has been based on having affordable home prices (with outrageous taxes) and - most importantly - family…

We now have a 15 month old baby - there’s not much in the way of leaving her without family to grow up with. I’m not sure any job or climate is worth that.

Congrats for deep soul searching and not making the decision based on economics alone.

People always tell me not to move for just a job but to ensure I’d really, really, really want to live there otherwise. I know for one, I hate the heat and would really miss the snow.

Wow - how exciting! I’m sure the time will fly by. Everyone’s super busy this time of year, and by the time January hits it will be time to get moving! Good luck and congratulations!

*Truthfully, we would never have moved here based on ‘promises’ by my company. LOTS of promises, not enough follow through. I don’t want to blame anyone, we came here, it has been good, I can’t say it’s been bad. It is just not home.

Florida is not that glamorous, to be honest. If you can sit on the beach, sipping a pina colada all day? Yes, it’s the life. But, if you have to work and raise a family? Not the place to do it. UNLESS, you have a support system nearby. I know that EM (who has posted in this thread) has that, and she lives in Florida. It could be a great place, had we had family closer. We live in a very nice area…so that’s good. But, still not home.

I never realized how much I disliked the sun, until moving here. lol Oh my gosh, it’s either sunny and humid, or raining and humid. :o

Give me cold weather, and warm people any day of the week. 😉 People make the place, not the weather. That’s how I see it. :o

Onto you–question–are you thinking of moving from NY to Florida? Or to a warmer climate, for your job? DON’T DO IT! :D*
 
Congratulations!!! I had a feeling you might come to this decision, and I am happy for you.

As someone who wishes with all my heart we had never had to leave home in New England, I’m just a little envious of those who have the choice; not so in my husband’s field. But, there has been much good here, and I can’t complain, as we have been blessed.

We have ties to Pittsburgh, too; my late MIL grew up nearby, and dh heads to Uniontown each Labor Day for a Byzantine pilgrimage. It is a great area with much to offer - as you well know!

Lots to look forward to - white Christmas 2010!!!
 
I was intrigued by the title of your thread. I think the place one spends the formative years of childhood often determines what is “home” and nowhere else is ever quite like home. I grew up in a suburb outside of Philadelphia. It will always be home to me, even though I lived elsewhere (Orlando, FL) for many years. I didn’t like FL at all when we first moved there, and it took two years before I stopped complaining about moving there. I spent quite a bit of time in Pittsburgh on business. There is something special about Pittsburgh, a city of neighborhoods and of people who are proud to be from there. I know a number of people who moved back to Pittsburgh after years of living in other places in the US and overseas. I will say a prayer that your homecoming is all you hope for you and your family.
