Not only are polygraph tests not admissable in court, but they are generally not used to “detect” lies. Most often, they are used as a scare tactic to get someone to confess. Just before the test, the investigator will usually “offer” the person “one last chance” to tell the truth. It works more often than not.
Repressed memories are becomming a thing of the past. The mental health people that I work with say that most new proffesionals comming into the field are not even being taught how to do it. The reason being that the “memories” recovered during a session have been found to be overwhelmingly accidentally planted by the psychologist. That’s what happened with all the “satanic rituals” in the '80’s. Those cases (over 100) were mostly recovered memories. The ones that were not, were found to be outright lies and attention seekers. The repressed memories were origionally accidentally planted by a psychologist trying to help with an investigation. When the news hit the national headlines, people suddenly began “remebering” being abused at a satanic ritual.
I think the same thing is happening with a lot of these accusations about the Priests. Maybe a few are guilty, but to have so many accused in a relatively short time, mostly by “recovered memories,” is hard to believe.
Still, if they really want to hang a man, they will. Jesus is a good example of that.
