Exactly…I don’t know how many times I’ve heard reasoning for doing something wrong because it’s in the “Spirit of Vatican II” I’ve even been at a class about Vatican II run by a nun who put up some quotes and said that they should be disregarded because the council was forced to put them in by those who evil voice conservative. She went on to explain how the “Spirit of Vatican II” really leads us to the exactly opposite conclusion than what is in the black and white.the way to get her to drop the intellectual laziness demonstrated by her condescending comment to you is every time she proposes doing something or teaching something a certain way, which you know to be wrong, ask her innocently to point out the Vatican II document which justifies the practice or teaching. If she can’t or won’t tell you it means just what previously poster says, she and everybody else is too lazy or ignorant or recalcitrant to study what Vatican II really proclaimed and relies instead on invoking “the Spirit of Vatican II” for every dissent, abuse and heresy they promote.
