I have recently been looking at a few things that come from church. It’s a small church in Kansas that I am sure everyone has heard of in the country of the USA, but out here in Australia we don’t hear a lot about it. I heard about them picketing a fallen soldier’s funeral at some point last yr, but even more recent was a press release they made claiming that Heath Ledger was burning in hell and that they would be picketing his funeral. I went to their website and read their claims, and one of their sites is called priestsrapeboys.com and basically according to them, we all as Catholics are going to hell because we are enabling “filth” … I was quite shocked.

Maybe I’m sheltered, but how can people like this call themselves Christians??

Such people call themselves Christians in the same manner that boorish personalities, such as Christopher Hitchens, call themselves reasonable. By denying all terms and definitions that fail to suit their own ends.

I’d like to be there when they meet God, just to see the look on their faces.

Ah touche.

I know that homosexuality is wrong, but to encourage hatred toward a group of individuals, to assert judgment, to not just love others as Jesus did, ESPECIALLY sinners and to not guide them in a loving way, isn’t that just as wrong??

Most of these people in this church are related.

Its difficult to know for certain but I would imagine that this family’s children are not exposed to different viewpoints. They probably are reared on hate.😦

Also, it is not the homosexual that is being punished but his/her loved ones. (Not that I think that the homosexual, or soldier etc. should be punished) I can’t imagine the pain and anger that I would feel if my husband died in war and his funeral was picketed by these people. 😦

There is a group of motorcycle riders who have earned a special place in my heart. They drive very loud Harley Davidson’s with huge American flags on the backs. When the members of this “church” (and I DO use that term loosely here) decide to demonstrate, the riders line the route with their LOUD Harleys and big flags. They line up between the funeral procession and members of this “church”. When the funeral procession drives by, all you hear is the rumble of the Harleys, and all you see are the big flags.

I would love to see these members of this “church” try to cross the line of the riders…

I completely agree. I remember that the soldier’s family were absolutely devastated, as I am certain Heath Ledger’s family would also be, should they even hear about this.

I listened to an Australia radio interview last night with the pastor’s wife and she was defending her “anger” and calling it “zeal”, then went on to say that she would never set foot in our “filthy, dirty, country” and that it was “doomed” and that God hates us. lol. She just sounds crazy. I have seen interviews with her two daughters one of whom is my age (24) and another who is 19, and I feel very sorry for them.

Awesome!!! I would love to see that!!

Fred Phelps, the leader of this Church, (Btw, they are all related) is not even a real Christian IMO. He is also a Neo-Nazi and even protested in front of a Holocaust Museum.

FYI

It is Westboro* Baptist* Church, something I am sure the Baptists are not happy about.

It may not be the most Christian thing to do, but when Fred Phelps dies, I will probably one of many protesting his funeral.

Well, they think that most people are going to hell; homosexuals, Catholics, and darn near everyone else. They picketed my parish church once when I lived in KC, for no particular reason.

The motorcycle riders that defend funerals are the Patriot Gaurd Riders, and there are a couple members here in my hometown.

Fred Phelps is NOT a Christian, and I do fear for his soul.
He is also not a Baptist, and the churches around here,Baptist and not, in south Georgia, give no support to his claims either.

Praying that people don’t look to him for an example of how Christianity is supposed to be…

I am absolutely speachless! I went to their website and it is filled with lies and hatered. As an American of Irish heritage, a former Active Duty Airman and current Reservist awaiting deployment and as a Christian I am filled with anger. They have links to God hates America, Ireland, Mexico…etc , God hates this and that. American flags upside down! It is very sad to see this type of behavior. We can never judge anyones heart for that is our Lords buisiness, but by their actions and statements it would be hard to call them Christians. Very sad. There is a little saying they should be reminded of - There are only two people who have ever died for you, Jesus and the American Soldier. One died for your soul and one died for your freedom!

Saint Patrick pray for them.

they are independent baptist, so southern, american, missionary, and other independents could care less since each independent baptist church is it’s own little (and in the case of the “church” i do mean little) thing.

i thought they were going bankrupt because of some of the lawsuits they have lost?

To these people, the only people who will go to Heaven will be the thirty members that make up their so-called “church.” They came really close to even picketing the little Amish girls funerals last year. They have signs that say “Thank God for IEDs!” They are so sick and have twisted the Word of God. Why, there were a bunch of them on a news talk show not too long ago, I’ll have to look it up, and the interviewer ask two of the children, who were about 7 and 9, what a f** was. They said it was a person that hates God! They are warping these children’s minds, even! Oh, I know it’s British slang for a cigarette, but Americans don’t call cigarettes that, for us it’s a derogatory term for a gay person; I don’t know if the Aussie term is the same. They are classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The way that they are organised, no money will be collected from them, so in effect they have. They still go places and stuff as they can in effect do it on the private dime. The individual members now need to be sued and put out of business.

I know this. I tend to be a calm, forgiving person. Sometimes, to my own detrement. I doubt that I would be so calm and forgiving if I was confronted by these people. If it was my relative’s funeral, I am afraid that I might make the national news in a most un-Christ like manner…

Hello,

About two months ago I watched a show about this family and its church…very interesting and disturbing at the same time…anyway if you have Showtime you should be able to watch the show on demand (i can’t remember its title).

God bless!

By the way…not all the soldiers’ funerals being picketed are homosexual.

Their “protest” has turned towards heterosexual soldiers now.
