I think that the western leaders didn’t criticize the attacks made on the holy father because they are afraid of upsetting the terrorists regimes. Similiar to how Pius XI condemned Hitler but other western leaders said nothing. Coincidence? Hardly. It shows that the leaders are lacking in courage and need to grow a spine.

They’re probably more concerned about the political fall-out of appearing “intolerant” than upsetting the terrorists.

The other day I saw a report that there was a lot of furor in the Italian parliament because their prime minister, Romano Prodi, said nothing in defense of the Pope. I suspect similar things are happening elsewhere & maybe we’re just not hearing about it.

And all they can do is whine about terrorism when it attacks. Haven’t they learned that being a coward didn’t help.

There was a really interesting report about this on BBC news last night. It was asking what we could learn from American Muslims and contrasted the ‘melting pot’ that is US immigration with the ‘cheap labour from the colonies’ attitude that prevails in the UK. It was accurate IMO because Muslims in the UK are (broadly) not valued for who and what they are, they are segregated and ostracised for being different.
It was heartening (and interesting) to hear American Muslims disagreeing vehemently with US foriegn policy, but extolling the virtues of the Country they love. Far from burning the Stars and Stripes, the were flying it. Definitely an achievement America can be proud of!
