False. The keyword in all of it is WESTERN.Does a Western Rite Orthodox Church look exactly like an Eastern one ? No statues right.
Rood screens are very ancient. We discouraged their use at Trent because we wanted people to be able to see what was going on at the altar.I’ve read about Western Rite Orthodoxy, and basically it’s not very similar to Latin Rite Catholicism. Basically, yeah, they only use icons. Sometimes they even have an iconostasis, something completely foreign to Latins. Many times they don’t even use Western vestments. I’ve never seen them using Latin or anything like that. Western Rite Orthodoxy also has literally no continuity in terms of liturgy. It’s pretty much an invention ex nihilo. You don’t just create rites. All rites of the Catholic Church go directly back to roots in the early Church or are variations of current rites. Not so with Western Rite Orthodoxy. Also, it’s kind of ironic that the Orthodox have a dislike for uniates, and yet they just do the same thing in reverse.
Where in the world did you get your info from?Western Rite Orthodoxy also has literally no continuity in terms of liturgy. It’s pretty much an invention ex nihilo. You don’t just create rites. All of the liturgies in question are descended from liturgies in use at the time of the Schism. They have complete continuity. It really is no different from Rome allowing returning Anglicans to have an Anglican Use.I always thought rood screens were distinct from iconostases in their origins. I’m quite fallible though.
I know that the liturgies themselves are based off of the liturgies of other denominations, but they are not consistent with Orthodox liturgical patrimony. Most liturgists agree that for legitimate liturgical practice the must be part of a continually living tradition. From the Orthodox perspective at least, Western Rite is not one of those continually living traditions, since its Orthodoxy ceased after 1054 AD. At least, I thought that was the way it is. As an Orthodox you’re probably better at understanding Orthodoxy than I am.![]()
