Westerville parishioners upset by punishment of member
Kathy Sibley’s grandchildren call her Nonni. Her former Catholic-school students say she’s a gem, beloved. But her priest is outraged by her behavior.
He told her so in a letter that banned her from ever speaking publicly at a church or school event in the St. Paul parish in Westerville and kicked her off its school board.
The infraction that drew the priest’s ire, she said, was no sin: She honored three St. Paul students who told school officials that they thought they had seen cheating. The priest’s letter said recognizing the students at an eighth-grade graduation ceremony was a charade to serve her “selfish and shortsighted ends.”
