Since this fits all of the criteria and makes it to your last point, is that really the only argument Protestants have in their favor of refuting James 2:24-26?
Protestants refute James with Paul’s writings and Christ’s words that when taken out of context state faith alone saves you. The faith of the woman who touched Christ’s clothing, and centurion made faith an ACT, NOT a profession!

Protestants understand faith as a profession (think creed). Once they believe those words, the profession (without action) saves them until death. Even Paul said we could technically do anything we wanted as we were free from sin’s consequence, BUT just because we could does not mean we should! No sinful state can ever be justified by Paul’s writings.

A profession of faith may breathe life into you by the Holy Spirit. Life in the Spirit will mature faith into action. If no action takes place, has salvation truly come?

Now my head REALLY is spinning!!!
I think this is the only aspect of Protestantism that I have a hard time understanding. I can see why they think differently on other things but not this one.
Oh well. Maybe it’s best to just agree to disagree here. 😛

To be fair, its not every Protestant that distorts the gospel truth. But it is prevalent enough to discuss. I agree with you. It’s one of the reasons why I came home!

The church I spent most of my formative years did not distort the gospel of salvation in this way. But they certainly didn’t emphasize the fruits of faith either.

No one can refute a scripture passage with another. They should all come together in full context. Not refute one another. :whacky:
And once a profession of Faith is made it has to be followed by an act of faith or “good works” as it says in James, since Faith without works is dead.
