What’s it like when you pray?

So when i pray i sometimes feel a shiver sometimes it’s a soft one or sometimes it’s a really strong shiver i don’t often get cold or anything like that and i only really shiver like that when i pray and converse to God. i take those shivers as Him listening or talking to me. when you pray is there something that happens that makes you feel connected with God?

Most of the time I don’t “feel” anything! A few times when I’ve been at Mass or at church praying I’ve experienced the presence of God enveloping me.
Most of the time when I pray and pray the scriptures and try to see how God is speaking to me through the passages. Sometimes I imagine Him sitting with me having a cup of coffee and telling Him my plans for the day and telling Him about anything that might be dis-concerting to me. I will ask Him to be with me in all I do throughout the day, and ask Him to be with all those who are in need.

When receiving Holy Communion, I usually have a melting or dissolving sensation in my chest, and frequently must blink back tears. I especially need peace and quiet at that time. Sigh.

We are all different, but I have felt the shiver. Years ago, when I was younger, healthier and my prayer was more fervent, I would occasionally experience something that I could only interpret as the presence of the Holy Spirit. During prayer, for about 10-15 seconds, my entire body would begin tingling and my breath would almost be taken away. This was always at adoration when I was interceding on behalf of others. The sole exception is one evening when two young men sat in front of me. After a moment or two, I began to tingle, I sensed that one or both of them had a vocation, so I extended my arm toward them.

Yet, most prayers are simply peaceful and silent.

A sense of awe. A sense of peace. A feeling that I can go on, for with God all good things are possible.
