 What a horribe sinner I am too, however, Thanks Be to the Lord our God-for he saw our frailty and gave us the Most Holy Sacraments, should we need to be cured!

I will be honest with you, The Most Holy Rosary of The Blessed Mother of God is probably the only armor against such sins-
The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against Hell," -Our Lady of The Rosary
It worked, is working, and with the Grace of God will continue to work! I too used to be addicted to that, I am pretty sure it’s The Mother of God who has helped me overcome this…yet

So, my recommendation to you my Dear Brother is a Daily Rosary. I am very sorry to hear to hear about your current Life situation, i am sure the evil spirits are using this to temp you into desparing. I think you should actually offer your difficult life as a sacrifice to God, he will help you and all of us in our iniquities.

Oops!-i think i wrote too much…yet again!👍 😃

A lot of good advice so far…

No matter what, don’t pay attention to the popular thought that everyone masturbates and that it is healthy… it is simply not true!

Also, check out this website trueknights.org

Never, never give up! You can and will beat this and the first step is to avoid the pornography. Find something useful to do or a hobby. An idle mind is the devil’s playground.

You are in my prayers.

I have the same problem as you guys.

My problem is that although I have stopped looking at pornography, lustful thoughts still pop into my mind unexpectedly…I think this is because of 10 years of habit of doing this…It was only recently that I learned that it is a sin! :crying

Any suggestions on how to gradually change my lustful mindset?

I encourage you to get some kind of treatment for your anxiety. The social anxiety is the main manifestation you can see, but it is overlapping into other areas. Grace is 100% stronger than therapy, but for most of us in addiction recovery - whatever the addiction - there is some combination that helps us get through. It might be more accurate to say that it is all grace, but that God uses therapy to accomplish His means, when that is what is needed for an individual.

I understand your father’s concerns, and am certainly not contradicting him, since I don’t know either of you, but I will share my daughter’s experience. She graduated high school very unmotivated for college, worked for most of a year, traveled in Europe for 6 months (backpack, hostels, eurail pass) worked for most of another year, then started part time at a community college. I admit I hardly saw her as college material when she got out of high school, nor did she. However, she has kept a 4.0 grade average and is entering the nursing program this semester. Sometimes it’s important to find yourself first!

God Bless you! St Peter said cast all your anxieties on the Lord, for He cares for you. Jesus said “Fear not, little flock. It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.” Hang in there!

Having thoughts about having sex is not lust. Thinking about things is how we move toward accomplishing them, whether they are good or evil. However, sexual thoughts are not necessarily evil, and are a natural part of our biological make up. If we males didn’t think about sex, we would probably pass on it more often than nature would be able to sustain the species.

Lust is not thoughts about sex, but rather, hoping for the opportunity with a particular woman, merely for the sake of sex, and not for the expression of love toward the other person. It is the desire to satisfy sexual pleasure with indifference to the benefit of the other person.

Also, the desire to become romantically involved, is not lust, if that romance is in accord with divine law.

I masturbated and looked at pornography again, said the Lord’s name in vain, and disrespected my parents just when I confessed two days ago. The priest I confessed to gave me his number to call because he was concerned, but I feel so embarrased speaking to him. I think he is or will get impatient with me. I’m not even sure if I can confess sincerely. At this moment, for instance, I can say I LIKED masturbating.
“Liking” sexual pleasure is normal and part of God’s plan. However, it is reserved for the marital act only, as I am sure you know. I like to eat, but if I do this constantly to the point of gluttony, I will not be using food or my need for sustenance in the proper way. You have twice said that “you looked at pornography” before indulging in this behavior. Regardless of the number of devotions you are practising (rosary, Hail Mary’s, etc), you will not succeed in your quest for purity if you continue to view such material. God will only help you if you cooperate with His grace. By viewing pornography, you are sending mixed signals. You want to remain pure, but you want to look at obscene images? You’ve set up an impossible situation for yourself by doing this. Get rid of the porn. It is poison for the soul.
This probably isn’t a good excuse, but everytime after I confess and feel renewed, I’m just reminded how miserable I am.
This doesn’t make sense to me. How can you feel “renewed” and miserable at the same time? If you believe in the cleansing power of Confession and absolution, you should be leaving the confessional feeling forgiven and reunited with the Lord. He has cleansed you. Why would you hang on to your misery?
Here’s my concerns: Now that I dropped out of college, I have a 0.231 GPA when I start college again next semester, and (I*'m probably repeating things from my previous posts*) I have nothing to occupy my time with except a few hours of work at Target a week.
As other posters have recommended, you should participate in Church groups. As far as I know, most Parishes have youth groups that engage in all kinds of activities, especially this time of year. If you do decide to go back to school, you might have access to a Newman center on campus, where you could meet other Catholics who are probably struggling with similar issues.
I also start dwelling on the fact that I have zero friends and never had a girlfriend.
It’s impossible to make friends or meet girls if you are not out in the world seeking them out. If anxiety is preventing you from doing this, go see a doctor. Tell you parents you need to make an appointment and if they “don’t understand”, make the appointment yourself. You did say you are 18, correct?
Though I’m only eighteen, is it wrong to want to fall in love? The gist of it is I’m lonely and if I could just die if not for the consequence of going to hell, and facing the unbelievable torment.
At your age, it might seem like everything is bleak. Trust me (and all the other geriatrics here!) that this feeling will absolutely, totally and completely pass. God wants to help you find friends that will support you and lift you up. But sometimes you must push yourself out of your comfort zone and go out to meet the opportunities God is preparing for you.
Lastly, again this prayer thing/Catholic faith doesn’t seem to be doing it for me. I mean I really try to focus. I pray VERY sincerely morning and night, and read scripture. I’m thinking right now I don’t want anything to do with God. I don’t understand Catholicism, and I can’t say I truly believe.
What exactly don’t you believe?
I’ve tried my parents, and I just can’t depend on them. They don’t understand.
What do you want them to understand?
My confessor also told me the quote “To whom much is given, much is expected in return” applies to me. But I I’m telling you and God I can’t do this. I don’t feel capable of giving back anything near to what God has given me.
Don’t stack your life up against what you’ve read about the Saints. That can often be overwhelming for someone of your age. Your focus should stay fixed on the issue that is causing you the most frustration: purity. Indulging in sinful behavior is going to block the grace you need. Once you remove that block, or at least move it out of the way, more grace can flow through you.
Now that I’ve written like this some will respond because they will get really concerned about my state of being, but I won’t be surprised if some think I’m hopeless and don’t bother responding because it is my choice to go to hell.
No one is hopeless and certainly not someone at the age of 18! Do you really mean to say that you are choosing to “go to hell”?

I have no clue what your talking about. are you saying its okay to think about sex before your married?

Of course its OK to think about sex before your married. If you didn’t think about it, how would you even come up with the knowledge on how to do it?

Sexual thoughts, or desires, are not lust.

So can i think about it for fun. I think what i just stated was a sin. isnt thinking about it for fun bad

I am sure you know that St. Paul even had a thorn in the flesh that would not be removed. You are in good company. Remain strong in your faith, and continue to frequent confession. Of course it is no fun confessing the same thing over and over again, but if nothing else, you will learn humility. Do not forget to continually give God thanks for all that He has given you in life, and mostly for giving you Himself. Deal with this with patience and humility, and remember the Lord’s mercy is endless to those who love him. You obviously do love Jesus, so be at peace, and dwell within the mercy of God. Peace be with you, and God Bless.

I don’t think fantasizing about sex is necessarily sinful, but you should not let it become habitual or allow it to distort the true beauty of sex, as God wills it. In fact, I doubt anyone can avoid thinking about it.

Sex is a wonderful experience, but its even more wonderful, when done in the context which God ordained, and that is, between a husband and wife.

To get too scrupulous about thoughts. Do your best to avoid the food that feeds unwanted sexual fantasies. As St. Paul said, “make no provisions for the desires of the flesh.” Stay away from porn and do your best to keep your mind clean. In all, don’t lose your faith over it, when you fail. Get to confession and start over. Most of all, pray!

What I’m trying to say is, there is a difference between willful immoral thoughts and non-willful, i.e. those thoughts that come into your mind and take you off to daydreaming before you realize you should stop.

We all have the latter at one time or another. As you age, you get them less because you mature and your priorities change. You also learn the triggers that allow such thoughts to come to you and you act on them ahead of time.

Willfully conjuring up immoral thoughts is sinful, and must be confessed.

I hope this clears what I’m trying to say?

Mini Gerbel:

As per your request, from the CCC:

I. PURIFICATION OF THE HEART

2517 The heart is the seat of moral personality: "Out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, fornication. . . . "305 The struggle against carnal covetousness entails purifying the heart and practicing temperance:
Remain simple and innocent, and you will be like little children who do not know the evil that destroys man’s life.306

2518 The sixth beatitude proclaims, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."307 “Pure in heart” refers to those who have attuned their intellects and wills to the demands of God’s holiness, chiefly in three areas: charity;308 chastity or sexual rectitude;309 love of truth and orthodoxy of faith.310 There is a connection between purity of heart, of body, and of faith:

Hmmm, I never read that in the CCC before. Thanks for posting it!

Hey Pharisee. I just felt like I needed to register because of your thread. Yes feel special.

I too suffered from this, and let me just say this. If you are unmarried and male you’re bound to give in from time to time. The problem is you are doing it every day. When you are that young (I’m assuming 18-19) you are not letting your “cashews” (didn’t know if the proper term would be allowed on the board) rest long enough to form testosterone at a time when it is most needed (latter puberty); hence the anxiety, and depression, and I don’t want to be crude, but if you do it so much that you don’t allow your body to have spontaneous “saluting the flags” you won’t be allowing things to grow chubbier. Then I am going to go out on a limb, and say you are doing it so much because of the anxiety, and depression to give your brain those feel good hormones. Then you are so afraid you are angering God by doing it you are worrying yourself into anxiety and depression. I speak from experience, and it is a nasty vicious circle. It can be argued if it’s a sin or not, but it’s not healthy either.

I apologize if I inadvertantly violated the TOS. I’m just merely trying to help this kid. 👍 Once again I apologize.

Oh I’m new. 😊

Let’s begin by saying I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me…

I’m addicted to masturbation… I just did it again a few minutes ago after confessing it very recently

I’ve been trying to say my prayers. I pray the 3 Hail Marys in the morning and at night which are supposed to guarantee protection from Our Mother from mortal sin, but I guess not for me. I’ve also been trying to read the daily scripture readings. I pray before my meals, when I feel anxiety, pray for others, pray for myself, but nothing is working…

I have a feeling I need something to keep me occupied. I just dropped out of college, never had much friends to turn to…
I got no motivation for anything, don’t really know what I should do. All I got in my life is basically a seasonal job at Target.

Random people on the internet is all I can turn to. I’ve talked to so many priests, and a bit to my parents, but nothing’s sticking.

Support is what I need and motivation to do something with my life.
Please know that you are a dear soul that Jesus loves very, very much. Jesus knows our struggles and our pains, our sins and our failures. He knows. And still He loves us. Please don’t be down on yourself. Focusing on things that trouble you may not be helpful. Fight the good fight. Keep going towards Jesus! Jesus knows that although you fail, you are trying! Use this time between jobs to draw close to Him. He longs for us to draw near to Him. Remove from your life all that leads you to sin. Then fill your life with holy things, books written by saints, inspirational movies (I especially like The Gospel of John). One thing that I’ve found helpful in staying close to Jesus is the anointing that comes from Christian music, and it is helpful to have it playing as much as possible, particularly, worship music. God bless you :hug1:.

Thank your the advice. It was very encouraging and helpful. Keep me in your prayers as you’ll be in mine.

  1. Garbage in leads to garbage out. We get so surrounded and inundated by media which is so sexualized that we ourselves start to be like what our media feeds to us. Definitely be careful about what you allow into your soul, because you might not be able to get it back out.
  2. Actions form habits. Habits incline us to actions. Breaking habits is hard. Destroying the old habit and making a new habit is so hard, but it is doable-- gradually and over time. And you break the old habit only by striving against it and rejecting it with your will. When you are tempted to do what you ought not to do, resist it. Do your best never to let temptation to come without resisting it. By resisting with your will temptations you will gradually break the habit and form a new habit-- a habit of avoiding temptation. If this is done, over a long period of time, with grace, you will almost imperceptibly. The struggle may be long, and desperate at times, but it will happen so gradually you may wake up one day in the future and realize it is won.
In the end you’ll be far happier without this habit. It consumes your time and spends your energy in a bad way. Fight the good fight!

-Rob

Hmm, yes, i think we all experience Spiritual dryness at various points in our lives. God overflows with Love for us all even in our many faults and imperfections. “The important thing is not to despair” (Fr. Vincent-i think). Life can seem unbearingly difficult at times but the good thing is that Our Lord is always with us. He wishes that we all go to him, however we can be sure it will not be easy. I think the deal with habitual sins is to literary just stop doing it and never go back to it again. If we say we’ll stop for now and see how it is, it most like will not work. We actually should literary stop and never go back again, and hopefully not look back at it again.
Regarding school, I personally think you should go to College too. I am 2nd yr. Perhaps you really are determined to do charity, however, i think God wishes us to get educated so we can better do His Will. I mean, think about it, Priests study just as long as Medical students. I think we can be sure such education is crucial to their specific duties. That being said, I encourage you to seek a College education first.

-i hope this helps a little bit. 😃
