What about 2012?

I don’t believe there is any official stances on 2012 by the Church, but have you heard of the Prophecy of Popes by Saint Malachy? Saint Malachy predicted there will be one more pope after Benedict XVI. It actually really co-relates with the whole 2012 thing. I don’t necessarily believe it, but I’m really waiting to see what 2012 will bring. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophecy_of_the_Popes

This is sort of confusing for me, I mean …if there will be no more Popes, doesn’t that mean the Church will fail? but Christ said it will never be overcome by the enemy…

the only way there would only be one more Pope is if the world ends then… but we don’t know when the world will end…

the other thing that’s sort of bothering me -
I heard somewhere that in 2012 most of Europe will be drowned in water. I don’t really believe this. BUT - if it’s true - then what if the Vatican will be there too? And what if THAT’S why there won’t be anymore Popes? And this means that our faith is a lie

The problem with the Malachy prophecies…

he says this pope will be second to last Gloria olivae (Glory of Olives)

Acccording to the prophecies, Peter the Roman will be the last pope

However, the prophecies say nothing about there NOT being any more popes inbetween. there could be many more popes between our current pontiff and Peter the Roman.

plus, wasn’t some of the prophecies said to be forged? Like they say the whole Peter the Roman was actually first recorded sometime after 1820… 682 years after Malachy’s death.

to me that brings into question if that was even part of the actual prophecy to begin with.

plus again, would a saint predict the end of the world and tell us when it will happen?

God said NO ONE knows when the end will come. Not man, not the son, not the angels in heaven. only God. If the Malachy prophecies were true… then we have a fairly good idea of when the end is coming… which means the bible was lying.

I tend to believe God over an unverified prophecy that may be a forgery.

There have been many end of times prophecies since the world began.

look just within the last several years alone…

Y2K was when computers would go haywire, missles would be launched sending us into WWIII, supervolcanoes would blow and an astroid would hit the earth according to the “bible code”.

when nothing happened, they realized… oh wait… the millenium started with year 1… so the millennium really doesn’t change till 2001. that’s the REAL Y2K.

when nothing happened it became 6/6/06, the mark of the devil.

when nothing happened I believe they threw around 7/7/07… however there was absolutely NO spark on that and they dropped it.

When people started talking about the ending of the Mayan calendar in 2012, they moved onto 2012.

They started talking about how Nostradamus predicted 2012

here’s the problem with those two things.

The mayans didn’t believe in “and end” they believed in the ending of one cycle only to enter into another. So when the long count ends on 2012, it rolls over into a new cycle, starting at 0.… kind of how our calendar ends december 31st, and a new one starts january the following year.

In fact, those who say the Mayans predicted the end of the world coming 2012 are putting words into their mouths. They didn’t really predict anything except a change of cycles. They never used the terminology dooms day or end of times, or end of the world. They never mentioned the end of anything.

As for Nostradamus… if you believe in those things which I really don’t… in a letter to his son, he said his predictions did not go farther than 3797 which means he believes that date to be the end of time. so almost 1700 years past the supposed 2012 prediction.

he never mentions nor talks about 2012. That is all made up… kind of how they made up that he predicted 9/11 and Y2K.

Only God knows when the end will come. Jesus knows he will one day return for his followers… but he doesn’t know when… only God knows when that will be.

So no one can predict whether mystically or scientifically the exact date and time our world end. All of this is just sensationalism for ratings.

that is why we must prepare ourselves. The end may not come in our lifetime or our children’s lifetime, or our grandkids lifetime. it may not even come for several thousand lifetimes…

however… we should all be trying to live every day we do have on this earth, as good as we can to be worthy of God’s love and earn our place in heaven for when our time does come, even if that’s when we’re 106 years old.

I knew a person who heavily studied this kind of thing and numerology some years back. In conversation with her about such things, she made it very clear that indeed, it was not foretelling of the end of the world but as you suggested here, a change of cycles. Her interpretation of this time was a shift in paradigm for mankind. Personally, she saw this as an end to a patriarchal society.

For myself, all this talk about the end of the world is grounded in man’s fear of his mortality. I firmly believe that we are called to guard ourselves against any such prophesies because it only causes us and others to take our eyes of Jesus and thereby fall more easily into deception.

Her interpretation of this time was a shift in paradigm for mankind. Personally, she saw this as an end to a patriarchal society.

This way of thinking is used by Fr Richard Rohr in his use of the writings of Tellihard De Chardin and the theory of the Omega Point. This Omega Point is supposedly the point in time we are traveling to in which mankind will be complete, a finality of complexity, as if God is not our origin but our destination in a formula of evolution. It looks like sin is a result of not being fully evolved.

Why original sin and humility, the teaching of the Church, is forgotten in place of all this and the 2012 renewal of gnostic error is the result of people serving themselves and not God.
