What are "demons" accused of doing these days?

The best way to start on the answer to this question is your NT. It was written by, for, and about Catholics. There is quite a bit contained in there about what the church thinks of demons. šŸ‘
Definitely the BEST explanation ever regarding demons.

Thanks guanophore (I intend no aspersion by calling you that - such a strange choice of names!?! ~lol~ … or maybe you’re proud of it?).

Along that very line (the NT), I came across the very story in Mark that contains a demoniac with several symptoms similar to epilepsy: seizures, foaming at the mouth, grinding of teeth. The problem is there are a few important details that the anti-Christs (meaning those opposed to the idea that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God) choose to ignore. Namely, the sight of Jesus caused a seizure but rather than being completely rigid, he rolled about. It is the case with possession that just the name of Jesus Christ causes the demon to react violently and prayer in general is hurtful to them. Also, in Mark’s recounting the significant detail that the demon repeatedly tried to cast the boy into the fire and the water in order to destroy him simply does not fit with epilepsy I don’t care how atypical you want to call it. There’s more there, but I suggest you read it yourself. Mark 9: 14-29.

Again, the NT has healing of illnesses AND casting out of demons. Sick people are NOT assumed to be demoniacs. You don’t have to read very far into any of the Gospels to get that. Just the same, the Catholic Church has the sacrament for healing of the sick AND it has exorcism. Does anyone want to guess which one is used overwhelmingly more than the other?

Demons posses people, cause physical maladies, and in general torment people. THey also encourage us to stay online instead of forming a real relationship with Christ…
(mea culpa…)

Oh, they also fake healing by simply inflicting disease and then lifting their hand when one of their human pets can do this to help bolster peoples belief in their power.

And in general started the Toronto blessing and the other bizarre signs associate with the Protestant charismatic renewal.

One subtle way they can slowly infiltrate peoples lives is by appearing as a guardian angel and having somebody ā€œnameā€: them as such. The CHURCH FORBIDS THE NAMING OF GUARDIAN ANGELS!

spock

I am infinitely surprised that there are still people who believe in guardian-angels, demons, imps, werewolves, witches, poltergeists and such. In the 21st century! As Einstein said once: "There are two things which are infinite, the Universe and human stupidity.

Well then, if Einstein said the universe is infinite, he was wrong on both counts. It is generally accepted by astronomers today that the universe is finite. And if stupidity is infinite, that of course would have to include Einstein, who was part of infinity. 😃 It would also have to include you! :D:D:D

*The CHURCH FORBIDS THE NAMING OF GUARDIAN ANGELS! *

Where is that forbidden? In the catechism?

ā€œPopular devotion to the holy angels, which is legitimate and good, can, however, also give rise to possible deviations . . . [such as the] practice of assigning names to the holy angels [which] should be discouraged, except in the cases of Gabriel, Raphael, and Michael whose names are contained in Holy Scriptureā€ (Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy 217)"

What is the (infallible) teaching of the Catholic Church nowdays concerning ā€œdemonsā€? Do the demons still assumed to cause epilepsy? Or other actual maladies? Are the demons still being exorcised? Or did the Church realize that medical science has bypassed those dark-age ideas? Do demons have horns, and walk on hoofs? Amazing questions. Any answers?
Hey Spock

-The Catechism has too much info on demons so you could check it for the ā€œ(infallible) teachingā€.

-As far as demons causing Epilepsy or other maladies and exorcisms, I believe that it is easy to look at these things as though they were ridiculous which you seem to. I, however, have had my own share of problems in my life so there is no need for someone to try and convince me of these things. I will leave it at that!

-The Churches ā€œ(infallibe) teachingā€ has never changed on any issue that it speaks infallibly on. This goes for those as you say ā€œdark-age ideasā€ which I am not sure exactly what you are referring to so it is hard to comment. But you are or maybe you are not aware of the difference between what the Church officially teaches and how individual people inside the Church act and speak about such things. You seem to be referring to more of the latter but that is just a hunch.

The last and most brilliant question(LOL) of course, Do demons have horns and hoofs? I think the idea of horns comes from the book of Revelation 13:1. I do not know where neither have I ever heard of the hoof thing. But I think it is always good to remember when talking to Catholics that you should approach them on their ground(the Spock principle) And they are in that case pure Spirits without form so no horn or hoofs in my humble opinion.

God bless you always whether here or on the Starship Enterprise
