First go back to the three wise men. They travel to Jerusalem following the star that heralded the birth of the Messiah. They went to King Herod because they assumed that this child must be of royal blood to be so great as to have the stars tell of his birth.
Herod knew nothing of this event so he sent for His Chief priest and Scribes. This is their king talking so they didn’t send a simple priest but their leaders. The ruling clerics of the Jews had absolutely no trouble at all pointing out the birthplace of the Christ.
We must note that they did not invite the wise men to accompany them to the event but stayed behind to school Herod in order to get him to kill the Messiah. They knew exactly what they were doing. Jesus told us in the parable of the vineyard that the renters of the fathers vineyard which were the Jewish priesthood sought to kill the son of the vineyard owner so they could keep it to themselves.
The vineyard is those of us who follow God. The Jewish priests had stopped waiting for a Messiah long before he came. They sought his death at his birth.
As far as all the other excuses Our Blessed Mother was a cousin to Joseph and of the line of David also. Our blessed Lord was of the line of David. That was the beginning of some of the Gospels one showing the line to Joseph and the other reciting the line to Our Blessed Mother although claiming Joseph in the end. KIng David brags of nothing else in Heaven then that Our Blessed Mother is His grand-daughter.
Although the priests recognized the birth of the Messiah so that they could direct the wise men not one priest came to the birth of the Messiah because they had their own agenda and it did not include following any authentic Messiah they wanted a political Messiah to help them take over the world. Nothing I think has changed for those who did not follow Christ. Keep in mind that the majority of the Jews living at the time of Christ did choose to follow Christ in that first century. Just count the baptised in the acts of the apostles in Israel. In just one instance 8000 men and their families etc. There were no more then 40,000 Jews living in Jerusalem at the time of Jesus.
Descendant of Israel: My great grandfather was a Jew. Married an Irish catholic. She died after giving birth to their third Child. He raised her children Catholic because he had promised her he would.
