Unfortunately, Catholics have been the target of discrimination and persecution in the last hundred years. The persecution came at the hands of Protestant nations, fascist nations, socialist nations.

What are some historic examples that come to mind for you?

One example is how Plutarco Calles (a Mexican president) tried to rid his nation of Catholicism (his nation had a catholic majority population).

A whole convent of peaceful Carmelite nuns were beheaded during the Terror in the French Revolution. Many priests and other prominent Catholics were murdered at this time.

Ireland before the English lost and withdrew its forces from Northern Ireland. Oppression of the Irish went on for centuries as did attacks on Catholics from Henry ; Elizabeth through to the late 1800s.
You don’t have to go far to find sectarianism in today’s society whether it is America; China; Australia or the UK. You can tell a lot about a man from his enemies and if we continue to be hated by our societies of depravity we are not doing to badly.

Although religion of all shades was stepped on in the CCCP, the Catholic Church often got it worse than everybody, because it had an international core that could not be leaned into. The late Josyp Terelya (who endured twenty years in the camps, and an attempted execution by freezing) wrote about this in his book WITNESS.

ICXC NIKA.

How about the Spanish civil war. 13 bishops, 4,172 diocesan priests and seminarians, 2,364 monks and friars and 283 nuns were killed not counting all the regular lay Catholics who were put to death.

The results of this past election.

Mexico in the 1920s. Look up the life of Blessed Miguel Pro, or check out the movie For Greater Glory. Viva Cristo Rey!

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton - after returning from her trip to Italy with her daughter (and as a widow) faced discrimination and people basically unfriending/shunning her because she was a new Catholic. She ended up moving to Maryland, the ONLY state where Catholics could freely worship without discrimination.

Sad to say but to many Catholics are persecuting the Church today by their disobedience and indifference especially to the Holy Eucharist. The Church will still be here, long after we’ve all come and gone. Still teaching the same TRUTHS as Jesus Christ did, till the end of time. God Bless, Memaw

At the time of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Maryland was (about) the only state that did not have some form of the English Penal Laws against Catholics. From what I’ve read, Maryland got reid if it’s penal laws because of the Carroll family’s work for the USA. :highprayer:

Also, during the early 1920’s the KKK tried to close down the Catholic schools in Michigan.👍

I’m pretty sure Pennsylvania and at least one other State allowed freedom of religion too.

You may be mistaken about Pennsylvnia: I think it was just a bit more broadly accepting of Protestantism.

I recently read Louis Auchinchloss’ memoirs, the novelist: he mentions as a child, at Christmas time, thinking of tipping the help, but advised not to do so since “they all give it to the Church anyway.”

Yes, but God also said he would be sending a great deception, that would even fool the elect, so whatever this deception turns out to be, it probably will do some drastic damage to the church before its all over.

I personally believe not too far into the future, our experts will make some kind of scientific discovery that they will interpret to be proof an alien civilization creating and ‘seeding’ earth, and ALOT of people will buy into this deception, I think it will reach the point where Govts actually encourage people to stop attending christian churches as this ‘new discovery’ proves it is false, eventually, people will have to attend mass in secret, all this was foretold in the bible, I think the alien thing would certainly fool alot of people, especially if some ‘discovery’ is made.

I think the government might do that, but if they did, it would be a pretty foolish argument. Even if alien lifeforms did “seed” life on Earth, that still wouldn’t prove religion false. Those alien lifeforms still had to come from somewhere, and ultimately there still has to be a Creator.

Ah yes, the early 1800s. Also known as “the last time Mayland did something correctly.”

I don’t think God will ‘send’ it but HE did warn us of deception. We have had a few of them already during our 2,000 year history. The Protestant Reformation for example. I wouldn’t let my imagination get away with me tho if I were you. God’s still the Boss. God Bless. Memaw
