I started yoga with someone else, who we had hoped yoga would help their health problems. I became curious about it and then studied the spiritual roots of yoga…they have very good ideas in there, mixed in with Hindu beliefs. I was an atheist at the time and could never get on board seeking to bring out a personal divinity.

Then I started to notice the spiritual aspects of yoga that had been incorporated into our yoga class. The most in your face was the life sized statue of a Hindu god…I thought it was there for decoration, until I read the Sutras.

Sorry, sloppy quoting on my part. I didn’t mean to convey I was quoting the Sutras, but a poetic conveyance of what they teach.

:+1:t3: The counter, I agree, to those who fear Eastern philosophies aren’t grounded in morals.

I just saw on youtube Iyengar say that his body is his temple and asana is his prayer.

Why cant we?

Yoga is fine. It is stretching and breathing. You can add meditation to it if you want, but you don’t have to.
