What are the reasons I should (or shouldn't) become Catholic?

depends on what you mean by ‘Lost their minds’. are you married? if you had a massive brain damage that completely erradicated your memories, rationality, your entire sense of self, and there is no hope of ever recovering any of it, whats the sense of spending thousands of dollars keeping you alive in a hospital, if your spouse is already struggling financially? what would you have them do? me, just pull the plug on my zombie body. its not me anymore. :o

what is the catholic view on this? did Terry Shiavo still have a soul?

If Christ did not suffer and die for the sins of those alive back then, as well as for the sins of eveyone who was to be born in the future, we would have no hope of salvation or eternal life.

The Catholic church itself was founded by Christ on the Apostle Peter as the leader, and the eleven other Apostles. The only thing they had to do with the crucifixion was that they scattered and left Him when he was crucified by the Romans at the demand of the Scribes, Pharisses and a mob which had gathered. Only the Apostle John, Mary the mother of Jesus and a few others were with Him when HE died. The rest all abandoned Jesus out of fear of the Scribes and Pharisees.

It was the Pharisees and Scribes, men who were in charge of the old testament religion of Judaism at that time, who wanted to get rid of Jesus, as they thought He challenged their authority in the faith. They pretty much thought of it as being a power struggle, but Christ’s suffering and death was predicted by the prophets hundreds of years before and then by Jesus Himself.

The Apostles got back together after the crucifixion and were in a state of confusion when Jesus was resurrected and appeared to them. He breathed the Holy Spirit on them and told them to teach the Gospel to the whole world. The name “Catholic” was not in use for about the first 100 years. The church Christ founded came to be known as catholic, because that word means “universal”-in ohter words, one church for the whole world.

It is a complicated, but wonderful story that has our fallen human nature at its heart. We would have no hope if Christ had not died for us. May you come to a greater understanding of the faith. Its truth will show you that it is the one true church, despite what many other churches may believe. It has 1,977 years of history and today’s priests can trace their ordination back ot one of the twelve Apostles.

Well that poses a problem. My definition of “Lost their mind” may differ than yours or someone else. So defining life or a person based on the presence of a mind is not a good idea.
 
i thought christ was jewish but now u say he’s catholic its a little confusing

Are you serious? I would recommend that you invest in a Catholic childrens bible or actually a bible for teenage level. Seriously, this is how most of us begin even as adults. Like a refresher course.
Also, I can recommend getting the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Read and study both, slowly.

You need to go back and learn history. I am far from an expert but can offer some basic guidance if you like. I am sure others here would assist also.

ive read the king james version of the bible a couple of times. is the catholic version that much different

The Catholic view is that all human life is precious. Even though brain damaged, she still had her soul, she’s still made in the image and likeness of God.

In the Terri Sciavo case we have the courts ordering a brain damaged, but otherwise healthy woman to be starved to death. While it is sometimes licit to refuse agressive medical treatment, all human beings deserve at least the minimum care of food, warmth, and shelter. Terri’s was a case of forced euthanasia, and she died a slow death. Pope JPII spoke out against her treatment.

You can read about the Catholic perspective on end-of-life issues in Pope JP II’s encyclical, Evangelium Vitae. It’s available on the web, but you can get in in print as well. You can probably get it from the library too. My local library has it.

In such situations, when death is clearly imminent and inevitable, one can in conscience “refuse forms of treatment that would only secure a precarious and burdensome prolongation of life, so long as the normal care due to the sick person in similar cases is not interrupted”.77 Certainly there is a moral obligation to care for oneself and to allow oneself to be cared for, but this duty must take account of concrete circumstances. It needs to be determined whether the means of treatment available are objectively proportionate to the prospects for improvement. To forego extraordinary or disproportionate means is not the equivalent of suicide or euthanasia; it rather expresses acceptance of the human condition in the face of death.

the old testament was before jesus was born and the new testament is during his life and after his death. jesus was the son of god.
