How long does the fast last?

Thank you.

Also are you allowed to skip meals and have coffee instead for example?

Midnight to midnight.

One full meatless meal and two smaller meals. You can have drinks between meals, unless the drink is more like food (milkshakes, smoothies, etc. would be out).

No need to skip meals.

Fasting is for those 18-59.

Those are the official rules but in my personal opinion we should try to do more than this if we can.

Yes, someone always has this personal opinion.

My personal opinion is that each person should follow the official rules and then should do whatever else they feel is appropriate for them personally to commemorate the day. It could be extra fasting, it could be prayer, it could be offering up something else. Don’t feel you have to do more fasting if you find that does not work well for you.

Sorry, it was just an opinion and I didn’t mean anything by it. I regretted posting that as soon as I clicked it.

Fasting is important. Thanks given.

But not because of a certain day. I know many won’t like me saying that.

Fasting can happen any day. As long as you do it for the right reasons.

Many will fast today and wil not actually know why they are.

Whats the point of that. Makes no sense at all…

Obedience to our Church leaders is important and, as long as the Church leaders aren’t telling us to sin, it’s pleasing to God when we obey.

There is nothing sinful about telling us to do a fast that honestly isn’t even that difficult.

The fasting done with a sincere heart is not pointless.
First, none of us are perfect.
Second, for those who have committed serious sins, such acts of penance may help lead them back to what is right.
