I’m sorry this is off the thread topic, but I wanted to respond to your comment with a different perspective. As a Catholic who supports the death penalty, as long as that’s a position I’m able to hold until the church says definitely otherwise, it isn’t for the reason you listed.US people are uncomfortable with the idea of being unable to execute criminals they consider heinous.
Many members of my family are in law enforcement, and some are in department of corrections. Even in maximum security prisons, some criminals are extremely difficult to control. They have rights even in prison and there is only so much that can be done. Even prisoners in solitary confinement get time each day out of their cells. I think many people are uncomfortable with the idea that some people are truly heinous, and use every opportunity to harm anyone around them by any means necessary, even if all they have at their disposal is their own bodily fluids. Correction officers and other inmates do not deserve to have their lives continuously threatened by individuals like that, and for that reason alone I think the death penalty is necessary in an extreme case like this.
