What are you doing to avoid the virus?

I have been doing what’s recommended by the government and my doctor. Nothing abnormal from what others are doing though I am a bit more careful around people and objects due to my health.
  • face mask
  • hand washing
  • quarantine packages
  • staying home except to attend to medical matters and get groceries once a week

We are allowed out to get essential things like groceries and medical care. Woe betide anyone pulled up and claiming they were just getting food and not having the evidence, being the food, or being too far away from home. There are limits to the number of people allowed in a food store and hand sanitiser ( an item the general population cannot buy) at the entrance and squirted on hands.
There is a lot of contactless home delivery too. Essential jobs like medical, emergency services, food chain related, are still open as are rural feed and equipment stores to keep up food supply.
The one sport still going around a few countries is horse racing, no crowds, all on track wear masks except jockeys racing and very strict isolation rules for those travelling to compete. Hong Kong horse racing televised is keeping quite a few sane 👍

I wear a 3M N95 respirator mask which completely covers the nose and mouth, straps onto the top and side of my head. I just happened to have it, before the CV pandemic — got it for my son’s cosplay. Very thankful to have it! We also have one N95 white cup-like mask and other masks used for hobby purposes (working in dust, sand, spray paint, etc.). I wash my hands very often, and even carry a small bar of soap and a jug of water in my car to wash up if I have been in an environment that seems like it would be especially risky.

The mask looks like this:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I only go to essential places of business and go to the door if possible (e.g., GameStop for my son’s games). Grocery shopping is online and I go to the parking lot and have the groceries brought out to the car. I did go in Aldi today just because I happened to be next door to it (15-mile drive, I was on that side of town for another reason) and picked up some things we needed, including a $2.49 bottle of plonk red wine to go with lasagna and spaghetti bolognese, and rice to go with my beans. All prepared food is either drive-through (preferably with an iPhone app) or carryout brought to the car (ditto for the app).

My parents and my son are staying home entirely for the duration. I invite my son to go with me sometimes, just for the ride, but he refuses — doesn’t want to take the chance. Besides, it is a good thing for him to be home, in case either of my parents would be in distress (disabled and mobility-limited).

I don’t understand how much of this is airborne and how much is through contact. I mean, if someone who has it sneezes next to me and I am wearing a mask, I still could get it because I adjust my shirt, and then later touch my face, right?
Both are ways of transmission, that’s why sanitizing, washing, not touching your face, and wearing nose and mouth covering are ALL recommended. All are important. Doing one prevention method does not negate the need for any other.

Yes, and there was talk of easing it but out of the blue new clusters or hotspots are being discovered.
Aged care, hospitals, food processing plants, a slaughterhouse, childcare centres and this is with lockdowns. The outbreaks in food plants is concerning. I read one plant in USA has almost 900 workers positive for the virus.

It seems like a long time to me to go without getting groceries, but kudos to you. Here, I still go every couple of days, if needed.
I order grocery delivery for every two weeks. If you strategize the types of items you purchase and how you store and utilize them, it’s possible to go this long or longer.

That mask is 100% legit. I will invest in one when they become available to the general public again. I live in NYC. At this point I feel I should get a full hazmat suit as well (just kidding, but not really).

Almost 700 next to where I work. And the employer was not willing to share the info because they thought it violated HIPPA. Seriously?

I should clarify and say if you touch your shirt and it’s infected and then you touch your face it’s an issue. But really you just want to avoid touching your face in any case unless your hands are freshly washed and sanitized.

The mask gets me a lot of approving “attaboys” when people see it and comment on it. Again, it was sheer Divine Providence that led me to have a mask such as this, before any of this became an issue. I keep the mask in the car, discreetly hidden in the floorboard in a folded-over Lidl bag — these are now very valuable, and leaving it loose in the car would just be an invitation to have the windows smashed.

That is a huge public health risk.
This is why I’m washing all produce and food packaging with a soap and water rinse and soak. Seems extreme but it’s ensuring optimum safety. And I cook all items except fruit (but again, only if totally cleaned).

We went to a smaller town not far from where I live today, (for a very good reason) and I wore a surgical-like mask. Too many people were looking at me like, “really?”

I’m not seeing that online now of course. What is the price range and where did you source it? I’m obviously not expecting to come across one now.

This is why there will continue to be new hotspots and spread. People are still in denial. I thought this was all overblown until around mid March. Next thing I know I’m terrified and quarantined since March 13th. It went from internet meme, to rumor, to pandemic in my city in no time. Denial does not make it go away.

Exactly. I know people who think it is a hoax. This is how it spreads.
