What are you giving up for Lent this year, it’s only 10 days away so decide soon! I am giving up smoking.

CAF and other social media, and instead will delve into Scripture and listen for God’s opinion instead of mine and everyone elses!

My fil gave up smoking for Lent a couple years before I met my hubby. From what I hear, my mil begged him to give up and start smoking again most of Lent because he was so grumpy. After Lent, he was going to start again and she put her foot down and said basically, “No, you aren’t putting me through all that for nothing!”. Hasn’t smoked in around 40 years. Good luck to you and God bless!

I’m giving up CAF (and most other social media). Instead I’m going to spend that time preparing to enter the church and for an apostolate I’ll be undertaking soon.

I’m also doing the 40 bags in 40 days house purge. We have too much stuff that can be better put to use elsewhere.

You don’t mean you’re going to give up reading the three chapters really do you? 😁

40 bags in 40 days sounds like a great idea. I’m focusing on detachment from the things that clutter my life like time wasters, money wasters, etc. I was going to try a no spend ( minus necessities) 40 days and this would go along well with it. Thanks for the idea.

Just like last year, I’m giving up junk food and sweets, but this time I’m adding video games and social media. I waste way too much time on them and it has a negative impact on my spiritual life

😃

No, I planned it in my mobile phone that I will cover most of the New Testament, just excludes two Gospels and the book of Acts. I might read those during Ascension and Pentecost.

This is an interesting year for me. I’m in the middle of a hard core diet. So, most of the things I give up for lent are already taken. And I’m not really interested in taking away other food or drink elements thus making my diet harder. TV is out for giving up as well. So I’m kinda at a loss.

I have to be careful though, if I give up too many sweet things I don’t know where I would consume any sugar.

On year I wanted to increase my giving up things each week so it got harder the closer I got to Easter but I failed to start that one.

I am beginning Exodus 90 with a group of friends so this…
Take short, cold showers
Practice regular, intense exercise
Get a full night’s sleep (at least seven hours is recommended)
Abstain from alcohol
Abstain from desserts and sweets
Abstain from eating between meals
Abstain from soda or sweet drinks (white milk and unsweetened tea are permissible)
Abstain from television, movies, or televised sports
Abstain from video games
Abstain from nonessential material purchases
Only listen to music that lifts the soul to God
Only use the computer for work, school, or essential tasks (e.g., paying bills)
Only use mobile devices for essential communications; nonessential texting, app, and internet use is prohibited
Practice fasting days: Wednesdays and Fridays (abstain from meat and only eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal)

I’m unsure of what to give up since this is my first Lent as a convert. I think I may give up social media, sometimes I think social media can be too poisonous

Well definitely not giving up social media as it’s my only connection with other Catholics.

Giving up coffee and junk food and Netflix. Taking up reading religious books and have bought a book by Thomas Merton and one on St. Francis to start.

I’ll probably stay on CAF in case I need help with something or need to ask a question. And in place of social media I’ll take the time to read the ascension press bible I just got
