What are you giving up for Lent 2019?

Is that Ascension Press as in Ascension Presents with Fr. Mike Schmidt on YouTube?

A recent Fr. Schmitz video inspired me to pray the Cardinal Merry del Val Litany of Humility as a means of daily examination of conscience. That’s one thing I’m going to do daily, I think. I am also going to increase my Adoration time. As to what to give up–not sure yet. Probably TV, but since I watch so little anyway it isn’t much of a sacrifice. Like others, I do spend way too much time on the internet, so this would be a good thing to reduce significantly.

Never did this before as a Lent penance but among other things this year I will keep my mobile phone in black and white (grayscale) mode for the duration of Lent. It will be a good reminder of the season I think…

I’ll probably stay on CAF in case I need help with something or need to ask a question. And in place of social media I’ll take the time to read the ascension press bible I just got
The Great Adventure one?

Do the 54 Day Novena, which begins on Shrove Tuesday and ends with the Saturday before Divine Mercy Sunday. Eat much simpler, healthier food to lose 20 lbs. Fast on the Fridays of Lent. Get rid of extraneous possessions and donate them to help those in need. Spend dedicated time each day just having a conversation with God - like good friends should.

Since I live alone and I am already a hermit of sorts, I will try to use that time to get closer to God. I am not an official hermit, it is just that I live like one.

I will try not to watch too many sit-coms that have no value. I can do without too much TV.

I already gave up my dog: he died around Christmas and I haven’t fully recovered from the pain. I will try to accept the intense pain I still feel when I look at the things that used to belong to him: his toys, his bed, and memories that I have of him.

I believe that if we don’t do penance, penance will follow us somehow. There is always something that will catch up and find us.

Praying for you and your fur baby. I don’t know if I should but I always pray that God will reunited me with my pets one day

That’s a good idea at any time. Apparently we subconsciously respond to the red counters etc. and it can feed our addiction to the apps. I saw the greyscale advice on a documentary including interviews with ex-facebook staff…

I give up all sweets and I am going to give up meat on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I am also going to read Dante’s Inferno.

Complaining.

And wine

The second one will be waaaay easier.

You can do it! We haven’t had regular tv in about 2 years I think and my husband and I don’t feel like we’re missing out. If we ever want to watch a movie or documentary we have Chromecast so we’ll stream something from youtube and that’s about once a month. I do have the tv on streaming cafe instrumental music almost on a daily. Very peaceful atmosphere.
