What are you giving up for Lent 2019?

The Internet. I use it way too much - even to procrastinate & to avoid. It will go off til Easter except for job-related matters, home business needs, & emergencies.

I am thinking about giving up CAF and mindless internet scrolling as part of my lent. Definitely will be observing fasting and abstinence. I plan on doing a 54 day Novena Rosary from Ash Wednesday to Divine Mercy Sunday. Giving up all sweets and snacks on every day. Food and internet are my biggest vices.

I plan to give up:
Cooked spinach.
Lima beans.
Black-eyed peas.
Anchovies.
Brussel sprouts.
Liver.
Vienna sausages.
SORRY…Just kidding.
My plan is to offer a Rosary each day for family and others who have hurt me through their words or actions in the past.
I also hope to so some charitable works and to donate more to charity.
I am not giving up anything. My plan is to take on some other responsibilities. More prayer and deeds.

Morgan20, Wow! That’s a LOT! I have lots of faults too but I usually try to give up ONE thing and DO one thing that will require effort on my part and hopefully let me draw closer to Jesus. It’s a journey… you don’t HAVE to do it all at once, but I respect your ambition!!! 🙂

Giving up all secular TV shows (Poldark series at the moment) and weekly sushi. My parish has Mass and stations on Fridays during Lent, so going to that.

Don’t know, but I will be praying the 54 day novena along with a few other novenas, regular exercise especially following my injury, tracking my cycle by taking my bbt daily,

I said I was doubling my charity contributions. Maybe I’ll give up sweets as well. As for the above story, I had my cross thrust on me at an early time in my life, and quite frankly, I’m sick of it.

I’m giving up CAF and other social medias (except for my health community group to monitor my health well), carbonated drinks/juice.
I’ll see you guys in 40 days!

I always wondered about this. Do people give up a bad habit for Lent, but then start doing that bad habit again on Easter morning? Like if you give up insulting people for Lent, do you start insulting people first thing Easter morning? As a child, I gave up candy for Lent and then on Easter morning I ate the candy the easter bunny left. But candy is not like insults. Candy is not inherently badm It is fine in moderation.

I am not giving up anything specific because if I do and then mess up even once I will believe that every bad thing that happens to me is punishment for messing up. (Yes, I’m that way.) So I’m vowing to either give up one thing (any thing) or do some devotion (any devotion) each day. That way, there will be something each day.

That question would be the same as asking whether people that pick up an extra devotion would then stop doing that.

So, if I start praying the rosary every day, during lent, then do I stay away from the rosary after lent?

Of course not.
