For my family it is always hard because my mom picks and boy does she love lent!

She usually makes us give up:
TV, Computers except for school or work, music, sweets, snacks, anything extra, we cannot even read books unless they are religious in nature.
My dad always gives up alchohol and sometimes drinks tea instead of coffee, but he loves to eat ice cream during lent. In fact it is the only time of year that he does eat ice cream. He only eats it when we are all around and he makes sure to exclaim about how good it is after each bite.
My mom cannot give up most of the things we kids give up because she never does any of them. It is like pulling teeth to get her to watch a movie. So she gives up chocolate and alchohol and drinks tea with my dad.
Just in case you all didn’t know Sunday is a day off of Lent. You are supposed to eat or indulge in what you have given up on Sundays because you are preparing for Easter and you are supposed to remind yourself each Sunday that Easter was on Sunday and that Easter is coming. Now if you gave up being mean that does not mean to be mean
During lent my dad usually reads a book out loud at night such as Greek myths or Chronicles of Narnia or Little Britches. We are now rereading all the old books that my dad read the older kids when we were little and now he is reading the younger kids. (There are six of us so the older three girls and the younger three (2b 1g) are often separated into older and younger:shrug: )
We also try to go to stations, but if we cannot make it we just say it at home. We always give up meat on Fridays, but during lent my dad spends more money on Fish instead of pizza or some other non-fish dinner. This way my dad is giving up some of his money for lent. We also say the Divine Mercy Chaplet during the octave before and after Easter with the specified intentions.
Lucky for us kids my dad says that Saturday nights after sundown we can drop our lenten fast so during Lent that is movie night.

Does anyone have kids who watch the Avatar or do you like the show Numb3rs? Well both of these are on Friday nights and boy is it hard for fans to wait 24 hours to watch their favorite show!
We never do anything on Madi Gras (sp?) My mom says it is pagan and we have never seen the point. Besides, making a huge dinner for kids isn’t practical. They want to eat during the day because they are hungary so, by the time the big dinner is ready they have had so many snacks they aren’t really that hungary. Just my experience.
