What are you protesting?

Again your argument on the Catholic Church is about men and their sins or those you perceive and then sit in judgement condeming them. The protestant reformation were men sitting in protest and judgement on Christ’s Church not the actions of some of it’s clergical members.

Yes even Jesus picked a man by the name of Judas Iscariot but He did not do away the Apostles or his Church.

Where is your Apostolic Succession?
Where are Your Priests?

For what I quoteD is scripture. It seems to me you only follow what you want, to pick and choose. That is not the way to salvation. Would you not agree?
Secondly. The Bible warns us not to boast about following a particular human leader, as Christ is our leader. Yet you boast about having Peter as your first pope and then successive popes from there.

1 Corinthians 1:10-17
10 I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters,[c] by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose. 11 For some members of Chloe’s household have told me about your quarrels, my dear brothers and sisters. 12 Some of you are saying, “I am a follower of Paul.” Others are saying, “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Peter,[d]” or “I follow only Christ.”
13 Has Christ been divided into factions? Was I, Paul, crucified for you? Were any of you baptized in the name of Paul? Of course not! 14 I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius, 15 for now no one can say they were baptized in my name. 16 (Oh yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas, but I don’t remember baptizing anyone else.) 17 For Christ didn’t send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News—and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would lose its power.

and

1 Corinthians 3:21-23
21 So don’t boast about following a particular human leader. For everything belongs to you—22 whether Paul or Apollos or Peter,[g] or the world, or life and death, or the present and the future. Everything belongs to you, 23 and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.

Don’t go on about your succession back to the Apostles. You belong to Christ. Talk about how you belong to Him.
Read about Pope Leo X for example or many of the other popes. Are their actions like that of the Apostles?
You may be able to claim succession back to Peter but who cares. Look at the kind of guys you can also claim your succession back to.

Thirdly. You don’t know anything about me. When I see Christians living a life that is not pleasing to God it upsets me so much. We as Christians are called to be holy as we belong to God we should live our lives like he did. Sadly today, we see Christians whom seem to care very little for Christ. Their actions show us that they aren’t really Christians at all.
However we are all sinners. To enter Heaven we need to be totally perfect. We are not. So Christ died for us to make us holy like Him. His sacrifice works in our lives when we accept Him as our Lord. Not when we simply start doing good stuff.

Also, in regards to your priests. No one has the rights to forgive sins except God. The Jews knew and Jesus used the opportunity to show them that He was God.
Read the following passage

Matthew 9:1-8
Jesus climbed into a boat and went back across the lake to his own town. 2 Some people brought to him a paralyzed man on a mat. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “Be encouraged, my child! Your sins are forgiven.”
3 But some of the teachers of religious law said to themselves, “That’s blasphemy! Does he think he’s God?”

4 Jesus knew[a] what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts? 5 Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? 6 So I will prove to you that the Son of Man** has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”

7 And the man jumped up and went home! 8 Fear swept through the crowd as they saw this happen. And they praised God for sending a man with such great authority.

P.S. Not sure why your quotes haven’t come up properly on these last two posts.**

1 So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.
2 Listen! I, Paul, tell you this: If you are counting on circumcision to make you right with God, then Christ will be of no benefit to you. 3 I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses. 4 For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.

5 But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us. 6 For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

Here you are taking the bible out of context. Think what is this saying?

That Jesus has fullfilled the old Covenant and replace it with a new one. That the Jewish Laws no longer apply. That not just the Jews are the chosen people.

I put the whole chapter in. Why are you only talking about the 1st 5 verses. In fact the law is there to show us how sinful we are. Jesus fulfilled the law for us.

But seriously. Why do you argue with everything I say. Did you not read the rest of the chapter. The 1st five verses were not my main point. My main point starts from about verse 13. I just put the whole chapter in so you could know the context. And if you read on you would see that Jesus replaced the law with what? Having faith in His sacrifice.

6:1 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists [1] arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. 2 And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. 3 Therefore, brothers, [2] pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” 5 And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. 6 These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith.

Matthias Chosen to Replace Judas
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away. 13 And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. 14 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. [3]

15 In those days Peter stood up among the brothers (the company of persons was in all about 120) and said, 16 “Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. 17 For he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in this ministry.” 18 (Now this man acquired a field with the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong [4] he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 “For it is written in the Book of Psalms,

“‘May his camp become desolate,
and let there be no one to dwell in it’;

and

“‘Let another take his office.’

21 So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, 22 beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.” 23 And they put forward two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was also called Justus, and Matthias. 24 And they prayed and said, “You, Lord, who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen 25 to take the place in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” 26 And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Paul is talking about remaining one Church do not divide such as the reformers from the reformation. I said it before and I’ll say it again the Church is infalliable men are not. Even Judas Iscariot picked by Christ was the devil himself. But Jesus did not break apart His Church or the Apostles because of a bad apple. Why do you keep fighting and taking the bible out of context. What does it say not only in acts but psalms about Apostolic succession that I have written.

Remember who Paul was talking to and what he was trying to put accross. The people there were still having numerous Gods and were calling the Apostles Gods because of the miracles they were performing.

Also, in regards to your priests. No one has the rights to forgive sins except God. The Jews knew and Jesus used the opportunity to show them that He was God.
Read the following passage

“For whose sins you forgive are forgiven and those you retain are retained”

Do you think you can find this in the bible or do you need me to point it out to you along with numerous other parts of the bible that give them this power.

Is that scriptual enough for you. that is where they get there power from Jesus Christ Himself.

So what you are saying here then is you are saved by faith alone.
But scripture refutes that and as I saif before faith alone never never does these words adjoin except for once and here it is.

James 2:24
24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.
But reading the context shows that James is not using the phrase as a definition. He is not defining the term “dead faith.” That term does not appear in the text. He is stating a fact, not offering a definition.

I can give you more.

Can you go to heaven if you do not forgive all others. Forgive us our trespassers as we forgive those that trespass aganist us.

For here you see we must do a work which is forgiving others.

Which is greater love or faith? I can show you in the bible.
So you see Faith is not the greater.

Benu 2007

First, though faith involves assent to propositions, it cannot be reduced to merely intellectual study. The science of faith is the highest of sciences because by faith man looks at the world from God’s point of view, but it is unlike human science because it depends on the movement of the will to the one revealing. Faith always involves a personal relationship with Christ.

Second, faith is never merely a fulfillment judged by human need or human science. God is not in the dock to be judged on the basis of how meaningful he is to me. I am judged by how meaningful I am to him. God’s reason is the standard, not man’s.

Since God’s speech is revealed in the words and works of his Son and the human response to these words and works is faith, Christ wished his words and works to be handed on perpetually to the whole human race so it might come to believe in Him. Christ chose witnesses and intimately associated them with himself in his own ministry of mediation.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I do not get your point here except to say it is easier to say. Jesus is the judge. But what you are missing here is that He was telling them that it is easier to forgive thewn to hold hate in your heart.

Jesus had the authority on earth to forgive sins I agree but when He left He gave that to His Apostles and their successors till He comes again.**

I could not answer your questions on one post as it would not take on the forum as it would be over 6000 characters.

However I believe I have answered each question with direct scriptural quotations.

Sometimes it is harder to see and take the Bible as a whole and in context. I believe you are letting man tell you what your faith should be instead of what Scripture, Traditons, and Teachings should.

Following all three of these like the Blessed Trinity that is not in the bible anywhere in scripture but in Catholic Teachings and following traditions like the washing of the feet, and the stations of the Cross

The purpose of Scripture and Tradition is to preserve the one deposit of faith about Christ. The authentic interpreter of this Word of God present in both Scripture and Tradition is the magisterium, which alone has the right to interpret Scripture and Tradition with the assistance of the Holy Spirit promised by Christ. By this assistance, Christ is with the Church until the end of the world.

The pope expresses this common Word of God and defines its contents, with the assistance of the Holy Spirit, when he speaks ex cathedra. This is not because he has studied or is a good man. The source of this infallibility is a charismatic gift of the Holy Spirit which functions regardless of the moral goodness of the one who exercises it.

This magisterium is not an independent experience of the Word of God outside Scripture and Tradition. The magisterium cannot define new doctrines which are not contained at least implicitly in Scripture and Tradition. The magisterium is not a source for new revelation. By the promised aid of the Holy Spirit, the magisterium expresses what the faith of the apostles has always been, whether in the written or the spoken witness to the Word of God. The magisterium cannot make a new revelation. It is the servant of the one deposit of faith contained in Scripture and Tradition.

Scripture and Tradition must be the sources of our faith in the Word of God (1 Cor. 11:2). In hearing both, we experience the Word living in our souls by the power of the Spirit. “We proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the Father and was made manifest to us that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:23).

Luther is not my leader.

Pope’s use to say that if you paid him a certain amount of money then you could commit a particular sin, like sleeping with a protitute. That is corruption at it’s highest. Do you really wish to be ascociated with people like this?

The scripture may not say the words faith alone (or at least that I can show you) but it does imply it. Ephesians 2:8-9. “God saved you by His grace when you beleived. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

So it says that we were saved when we believed (i.e had faith). It then says that we had nothing to do with it “And you can’t take credit for this.” It then says that salvation is not a reward for our good works “Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done.” There are other passages that say that Christians should have good works and stuff like that. But they all say that that is produced by faith. It’s not what actually gets us into Heaven. If we have faith it will produce good fruit in our lives.
as i recall both cain and abel did works for God. somehow the works of abel pleased God but the works of cain did not. can you tell me why God chose abel and not cain?

:bowdown2: :hmmm:

Look quite simply I am getting tired of this. I tell you time and time again that when we are walking in faith we naturally do good works. But it is not those good works or simply reframing from sin that save us. We have all sinned. Therefore we are cut of from God. However God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only sun that so whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. What is it that makes us right with Him, it was his sacrifice. He died for our sin, there is nothing more we can do but follow Him.
Everytime I put verses up that say this you always say I’m just taking it out of context. That’s your answer for everything, but with you, you’re always right. I even put up Galations chapter 5, which pretty much backs up what we are both saying - that we cannot say we have faith yet just carry on sinning - yet even that was out of context.
You limit the Church to what is established on Earth. Which of the reformers rejected Christ? They didn’t. They said that the leaders in the Church were corrupt. They tried to speak out and they were either killed or excommunicated. If the Catholic church believes in unity then why do they excommunicate? And it’s not for sinful things, it was for things like trying to print the bible in English or saying that it is wrong to sell forgiveness of sins for money. That is corruption, you know that. The reformers only rejected the Pope. They didn’t reject Christ. You say that man is not infallable, only the Church. Well isn’t the Pope a man? Only God is infallable,
Why ask a priest to forgive you of your sins when you can simply ask God? You don’t need priests. And when are priests even mentioned in the Bible - do not quote the old testament as those priests were to offer the sacrifices - different role.
All throughout Pauls letters Paul was contunually talking against false doctrine and those who put up good sounding arguments and twisted scripture. He was protesting false teachings. Luther and others also protested false teaching and yet now he was a heretic.

look all I am trying to say is that you always argue with everything I say. And it’s all because I’m not a Catholic. You want me to join the Catholic Church. Why do I need to do that? Christ is my Lord. That means I belong to Him. Why bother joining the Catholic church, which has a man at the top who claims to be infallable when interpreting scripture. Think about that. Doesn’t that give him a lot of power, He could say something that is wrong and you would believe him. I read my bible, and learn from that. It says to live a Godly life, to think about Heavenly thinks not worldly things. Never live for other people opinions but care about what God thinks. Above all live for God. Christ paid our penalty for sin, we just have to accept Him, which also means accepting His ways.

how do you possible have a problem with this?

Again you are taking things out of context again.

What power is given the Pope?

You make statement that you have no idea what you are talking about.

The reason for joining the Catholic Church is so you can have the fullness of faith. So you can become part of the body in which Jesus is the head.

The Catholic Church will give Sacred Scripture,Sacred Teachings, and Sacred Traditions.

The Catholic Church through the Holy Spirit will annoint you and make accessable to you the seven Sacraments,
  1. Baptism
  2. Communion
  3. Reconcilliation
  4. Confirmation
  5. Matrimony
  6. Holy Orders
  7. Annoiting of the Sick
All of which come from directly out of scripture.

The Catholic Church will help your journey here on earth so that you may reach your goal to be with our Lord after this short life is over.

You know think about it. What I have said to you is truth in all these posts.

Last night I attended the washing of the feet at my Catholic Church which encompassed anyone coming up in front of the Altar that wished to and there were many, washing eachothers feet.

This is one way of teaching Scripture with traditions.

Why did Jesus do this?

Why was Peter told by Jesus that if He does not wash his feet than you cannot follow me. Was Jesus telling Peter directly he must do works and not just believe?

Peter said than wash my whole body, Jesus told him you are already clean.

In other words saying Peter was spiritually and physically clean.

Now they had faith and they already belived in Him. They knew Jesus was their salvation. But Jesus said you must go out and do this to eachother (works) was He talking about washing feet?

What was Jesus teaching here?

With Peter we must humble ourselves and accept the good works of others towards us? “Remove Pride”

Many times it is harder to receive than to give.

For we must be servants as well as leaders and to show this through our works?

How can you deny this dramatic and one of the final actions of our Lord before His Passion?

Jesus told Peter explicitly that if He does not do this he cannot follow Him.

“I, Your Lord and Master, now become your servant. I who made the moon and stars will now kneel to wash your feet. This is my commandment: to love as I have loved you. Kneel to wash eachother’s feet, as I have done for you”.

“To Love” a work

This is not faith alone but a work done purposely through and by faith.

Look we all love you and want the best for you. If at times you feel overwhelmed with the amount of scripture being put forth here it is understandable.

The scripture I quote I know is direct, to the point, and makes common sense.

There are many who are going to lead you astray through twisting and skipping and all over the bible to show their point and not that of Jesus Christ.

Who was Jesus talking to here in the new testament Benu?

“Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me” (Luke 10:16).

Who was Jesus speaking to here Benu?

This is direct, inrefutable Scripture from out of the New Testment.
I do not want additional scripture I just want you to define these two.

Yeah so Mary was blessed becuse she was a servant of the Lord, rather than because she was His Earthly mother. She isn’t someone we should pray to or say “hail Mary” to.

Jesus was talking to the apostles. They were filled with the Holy Spirit - this was shown by the kinds of works they did. But where in the Bible does it say that we need to go to a priest. Jesus is our Great High Priest and He lives so we go to Him. The Apostles knew the full Gospel. So anyone that said anything different to what they said was obviously lying. So if they rejected what the apostles were saying then they had obviously rejected Christ.

May I ask you this question - If I make Jesus my Lord, then isn’t He going to be my Head as well? So stop saying that anyone who isn’t part of the Catholic church isn’t part of the body of Christ.
Which of the reformers rejected Christ as their Lord?

So now are you saying that we have to go around washing each other. Jesus did that to teach us humility. If we are to follow Christ then we have to serve others, just as Jesus did.

I think we are talking about the priest hood here and them not marrying what do you think?

“‘May his camp become desolate,
and let there be no one to dwell in it’;

This is Apostolic succession.

Paul formally became an Apostle 7 years after the crusification. Do you agree Paul was an Apostle?

You argue with yourself and scripture

Paul himself warns about those being divisive of the church and it’s teachings kind of think he saw the reformation coming.
