Hi, I was talking to a friend of mine and she commented that, “Only people from Latin America are Catholic”. Then i said,“No i’ve seen many anglo, and african americans who are catholic”. So my question is, to prove a point to her, is what nationallity are you
Nationality is one thing, ethnicity is another. In your original question you asked for ethnicity, not necessarily nationality. Now, I’m Hispanic and my original nationality is Costa Rican. Someone from Brazil is Latin and his nationality is Brazilian. Someone who was born here might be Caucasian or Black of German, or Italian, or Irish, descent (ethnicity) but his or her nationality is American.

Now, half of the Catholic Church, 1 billion Roman Catholics worldwide, is to be found in Latin America, but most Europeans are Roman Catholic and it is from Spain, from which we, Hispanics, got the Catholic faith.

Antonio 🙂

uhh, not to be a nit-picker, but “caucasian” isn’t a nationality. 😉

Anywho… I would describe my identity this way:

Catholic-convert, American, White-girl. Native of the great Pacific Northwest (web-toes and all). 😃
Mixed European in race, German, English, Irish, God-knows-what.

You are correct, “Caucasian” is not a nationality and I made I mistake by implying it is.

Antonio :o

I’m a northern European mutt: English/Irish/Finnish/French. Given the predominance of red hair, I think I’m probably mostly Viking.

But I’m about to get an Italian passport! (Italian husband)

Yea, Yea, I know, I got it all mixed up, Lets Just forget the origional question and state your nationality, ethnicity, and all the rest. Oh, thank GOD the Spanish came to Mexico, or I might still be worshiping the Sun.

ummm does it matter? Is being from one nationality, culture, or race make one person more catholic than the next or more human? Catholic=Universal(GK). I for one, am, yes, human.

I’d be called Caucasian, but since that term tends to reflect European ancestory in most people’s minds, I’m sticking to “other”. My mother’s family is Armenian (Eastern Turkey, Northern Iraq, Western Iran regions) and my father’s side is “blended British” with an emphasis on Irish. I look very Irish/general British, but I identify with my Armenian side the most.

Technically Armenians, and all Middle-Eastern folks, are “caucasian” (and the Caucusus Mountains are in the Armenian region), few would describe my mother’s family as “caucasian” because of the White, European emphasis of the term. Regardless, we’re definately NOT Latino, and my mother’s side doesn’t even go west of Anatolia 😛

OK folks, this is one issue that will probably make you  think I am being a jerk, but please think about what I will say.

We are all part of the human race. In most of these forms my son, who was adopted, is bi-ethnic, but they don’t allow me to make the distinction of both parts of parentage. I started checking “Other” and writing in “human”.

The more I did it for Christopher, the more I started thinking, hey, we all need to get over this. So, I picked “other” on the poll. You didn’t give a chance to write in human. Yes, some ethnicities are more likely to be Catholic, it seems, but the Church is Universal and that includes all God’s children.❤️

Maybe it would be best to ask not so much by color as by culture – except us white folk don’t have cultural name, do we? We don’t want to be called European – at least not all of us. That our Holy Father kind of elevated the status of the Polish people, I can kind of claim that as my predominate ethnicity. I do know how to polka and have played an accordian. Just in case you wonder how authentic this Polish thing is. :tiphat:

Oh well, I do want to start a “human” movement and get rid of the pencil pushers who count everybody. Geez, let’s just be like we’re supposed to be – even when Mom isn’t looking.

Pax et bonum,
Mamamull

My family is originally from Ireland. I’m only a 3rd generation american. Almost all of Ireland is Catholic.

I’m surprised that your friend thought only latino’s were catholic. I figured the Irish would be a more likely guess. 🙂

I hope you can aqppreciate that I married into an odd spelling of a very Irish word, for a last name, Mullarkey. I’m not a Calvinist, but it seemed like I knew I would marry this man as soon as I got a real good idea of his name.

I tried to be serious, but it gives me migraines. So I avoid being serious as much as possible.👍

I’m Cajun! Born & raised in Southwest Louisiana! But I’m also a mixed breed. I’m mostly English, one grandmother is from England, but my other grandparents are part American Indian, cajun-french, and I’m not sure what else. Except for my grandmother, my fmaily has been in the states for generations.

Are there any other cajuns on this site? 😃

There are not nationalities.

And isn’t this considered personal information which is against the rules?

Why would someone need to know this here?
