What are some of your favorite songs

Dream Theater, my favorite band, has a lot. In particular, there’s The Root of All Evil, Breaking All Illusions, The Count of Tuscany, Octavarium, The Ministry of Lost Souls, and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. For anyone looking up that last one, the full song is actually split up into multiple named movements for easier navigation. On the album with the same name, it’s everything from Overture to the end (Losing Time / Grand Finale).

Some others include:
  • Runaway Train - Avantasia
  • Blackwater Park - Opeth
  • Center of the Universe - Kamelot
  • Fullmoon - Sonata Arctica

Here’s something random:

I have a theory that the European Jewish cantorial tradition derived from that of the Catholic Church and that our cantors once also sang this well, even if of a different style. It’s time the Bel Canto tradition returns to our Liturgical practices.

The correct answer is: “Morning has broken”, performed by Cat Stevens and many others. Best piano arrangement (but extremely difficult to play) is Richard Wakeman’s.

I’ve met some folk who say that I’m a dreamer
And there’s no doubt there’s truth in what they say
For sure a body’s bound to be a dreamer
When all the things he loves are far away.
And precious things are dreams unto an exile
They take him over the land, across the sea
Especially when it happens he’s an exile
From that dear lovely Isle of Innisfree.

I watch the the moonlight peep across the rooftops
Of this great city wondrous though it be.
I scarcely feel its wonder or its laughter
I’m once again back home in Innisfree.

I wander o’er green hills and sleepy valleys
And find a peace no other land could know
I hear the birds make music fit for angels
And watch the waters laughing as they go.

But dreams don’t last
Though dreams are not forgotten
And soon I’m back to stern reality.
And though they paved the footpaths here with gold dust
I still would choose my Isle of Innisfree.

Dream Theater is my brother’s favorite band, too. Between studio releases, singles, live albums, official bootlegs, etc, I think he has over 100 DT CDs. 😁 My favorite Dream Theater song will always be “A Change of Seasons.”

Twenty-three minutes and nine seconds of musical perfection. 🙂

My other favorite 23 minute song (okay, 22 and a half minutes 😝) is Theocracy’s “Mirror of Souls.”

I can’t even begin to come up with an answer. Sometimes it would be classical, sometimes it would be jazz, sometimes punk . . . any song of any genre could end up being a favorite . 😎

There are so many but…I do think I have a favorite song that would top the list and that would be…

Stardust

Louis Armstrong…

Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra…

Nat King Cole…

It changes all the time. Right now it’s ‘Cry for eternity’ by Dragonforce (Dragonforce also happens to be my favourite band).

I’m definitely a fan of A Change of Seasons. It isn’t my favorite DT epic, but in general, I’m a sucker for their longer songs. I was really disappointed that The Astonishing stuck to shorter, simpler (for them) songs. Hopefully, they’ll have at least one on the next album.

Beethoven’s ninth symphony, with the Ode to Joy in the last movement. Cosmic music that surely came directly from God Himself.
