Fr. Corapi has been sick, you can google that and find many posts on it, this site and others. He is thought to have a non-malignant tumor but they can’t find it…also sleep apnea, but that isn’t what is making him so sick.He was on the phone a couple of months ago on EWTN and sounded tired and a little frustrated, but trying to “live what he teaches”. I hope he is able to write him memoire, because it would be an interesting, motivating read.

I know it’s frustrating about “wishy-washy” priests, priests that have lost thier zeal, etc. but you have to see it at both ends.
Many don’t preach hell, because they aren’t the ones to choose it, they can advise, but whether someone ends up there is not their call…it’s God’s.If you believe any after-death stories (I’ve read many over the years), many people see loved ones and even ones they didn’t know existed) that didn’t all live perfect lives…whether they suffered in their own way before or after death, God has the final word whether they get into heaven. Our human brains can only absorb so much,
Also, like it or not, church is a business…you need people to run a business. If you alienated every Catholic that still goes to church and made them leave if they were on birth control (most of them) lived with someone, accepted the gay lifestyle, etc. you wouldn’t have enough Catholics to keep the church alive right now. If we close any more church’s there will be no place to go when you accept the grace of God. Other church’s will accept them “as is”. Also it’s way too soon for the church to throw stones…after letting bad priests run church’es, pedophiles, active gay priests, embezzlers, preists having affairs, to say, “your sins are too much for us” seems hypocritical. If they turned their eyes from that (and they did that all over the US) they can’t center on the parishiners.
I believe the church will change, more orthodox church’s will evolve, priests like Fr. Groechel and others will speak compassionately and firmly, but there is too much hurt right now, and too much a need for money to be the way you want them to be. It’s wonderful but not based in reality when you thinking as a business and they have to have that mindset to survive and pay all the expenses they have.

I must disagree.

It is only through preaching and teaching of orthodoxy that the Church will continue to grow. If you do not fear the wrath of God, but only fear mammon, who are you serving?

I also echo what Fadda Frank Pavone says: It’s Friday, but Sunday’s coming! 👍

I do agree with you, but I think the delivery varies by priest and you can’t talk to any large group of people that haven’t had a priest/nun hurt them in some way and had some effect on them later. You have to be careful how you start to address things that haven’t been before.
Both Fr. Corapi and many times Fr.Groechel and Mother Angelica, have brought up the many “mean priests and nuns” that hurt their faithful years ago. They were all fire and brimstone with no compassion. Everyone has to be on the same page to have a new change in the church…you can’t have different answers on each corner. That happened to me years ago when I got married and besides being confusng, you start to think that certain things don’t matter.
And I repeat, the church is a business, it wasn’t in Jesus’s time but it is now. You can’t pay for charities, schools, even priests salaries and bills without people giving you money. I know many priests are afraid, they can’t all be John the Baptist…they are human and afraid of being out of work. Some of that comes from lack of support above them, so you really can’t blame them entirely. If they talk about something their boss told them not too…well, the repercussions might not be worth it.
I do hope though that things change and the new seminaries will bring brave new priests and bishops that will help it’s children grow in the faith.

I think many priests are afraid. Whether they ought to be or not, I can’t say. But I know that we have a very orthodox priest who never fails to speak lovingly but plainly about matters of great importance (sin and virtue, heaven and hell, adherence to ALL Church teaching, etc.), and we have had such a tremendous overflowing of new members and greater Mass attendance that we have to build a bigger church to hold and serve everybody!! :extrahappy:

This confirms what many have long suspected: that the Catholic community is longing for strong leadership and a return to orthodoxy. I’ve never seen anything like the renewal that’s happening right here in our parish. I believe it is a testament to the power of the Truth spoken in love, and acted upon. If more priests would have the courage to do what our one little priest has, I believe the meat-starved Catholic population would flock to them. 👍

I agree with Surf(name removed by moderator)ure. I was away from the Church for 30+ years because I had ought in to the secular worlds beliefs. The secular world left me feeling empty and constantly searching. Since I have returned to the Church and studied the Catechism of the Catholic Church( hard going at times ), read many books, and watched Father Corapie and others on EWTN I understand the Catholic Teachings better and am now much more content, nolonger feeling empty and no longer searching.

I agree with Surf(name removed by moderator)ure. I was away from the Church for 30+ years because I had bought into the secular relative worlds beliefs. But I do find it frustrating when I find Priests that are weak in some of their teaching. I had a Priest lecture me about not needing the Sacrament of Reconcilliation if I had only Venial Sins. That Priest refused to hear my confession. I try to receive the sacrament of Reconcilliation about once a month, either the Saturday or Sunday morning before it is my turn to act as Eucharistic Minister. And yet the Catechism asks us to recieve the Sacrament of Reconcilliation frequently even if we do not have Mortal SINS to confess.

I agree, our Dominican church is near Yale and has students and members from cities over 30 minutes away. That said, their sermons are great, but once the priest said they don’t talk about abortion much (except in the prayer intentions) because members sometimes are hurt who have had them, etc. I think that’s all in the delivery…forgiveness has to be mentioned along with it, maybe more than once.
I feel in my very humble opinon, birth control is not such a big deal to most of them and the least discussed among the churches. I think if they address teachings with love and instruction, it will get across more and not seem like such an antiquated idea.
They do have confession 6 days a wee, twice a day, and people in line I think everytime. That sacrament is very well served there.

I’m new to blogs and forums…here goes! I had to jump in and voice my admiration for Fr. John Corapi. It’s true, his style is not for everyone. However, there are those who will listen to his preaching PRECISELY because of his style. The man speaks the truth, he speaks from experience, he speaks with passion, and as if he’s running out of time. He is street wise and has the spirit of a warrior. There is spiritual warfare out there, as well as cultural warfare. We need preachers who will not be silenced by political correctness, intimidated by others’ opinions, or concerned about public image. I didn’t know he was ill…and that makes me sad. Who will wage the battle in his place?

Well then, welcome! 🙂

I quite agree, Mac - this is a serious issue. We need to understand that there is a very real war going on, and that warriors are needed.

I think that there are a lot of people who don’t want to offend people - and we should all avoid offence where we can. But sometimes the truth ITSELF is offensive to some people; we can’t help that.

What I mean is, there is a difference between saying “You are a stupid, idiotic person for not worshipping Jesus!” and saying “You should worship Jesus!”. The first is perhaps deliberately offensive, while the second is simply the truth.

Will people be offended by the second? Yes, they will - because it is direct and straight-forward. But we have to speak like that because, as you say, if we don’t, who will?

crenfro:

I TOTALLY agree with your post. One day, perhaps soon, the world will see all that Fr.Corapi has done and will feel nothing but shame.

Felt a little down the other day, thinking about more negative things…like how Fr. Corapi and Mother Angelica, “2 big mouths for Jesus” were silenced…why did God choose that (or allow it)? And Fr. Francis caused scandal for EWTN and “maybe” shook some young believers.
I try to balance things, but some days, I feel a little blue. I guess we;ll take our knocks and go on…but those 2 helped a LOT of people.

I wouldn’t worry too much. Even if, God have mercy, we were to lose Mother Angelica and Fr. Corapi, we have not lost their great deposit of leadership and teaching. It has been well preserved and will continue to be distributed for years to come! 🙂

I am not old enough to have heard or seen live the great Fulton Sheen, yet I have come to benefit exceedingly from his powerful teaching! And remember that so many of the saints suffered greatly during their time on earth. So I know that Fr. Corapi and Mother Angelica (and Fr. Benedict Groeschel and many others) give thanks for their opportunity for purification and setting the example of holy suffering. :signofcross:

I just checked back on this conversation and feel like it got kind of pessimistic about the future of evangilization without Fr. Corapi and Mother Angelica. Has anyone noticed the post on this forum about “RealCatholicTV”? “Lizanne” provided a link (http://realcatholictv.blogspot.com") so I checked it out. It looks awesome. Apparently it is not fully up and running, but will be Sept. 1. Very lively, informative, faithful. Hey, it sure gives me hope for the future! 👍

i have never heard of real catholic tv. will it only be on the internet?

i am new to the catholic faith. in fact, today is my 1 month anniversary.

i like watching EWTN. my favorites are Fr. Corapi, Fr. Groeschel. i thought that Fr. Corapi looked ill on one announcement i saw him make. i have not heard what is wrong with him though. i know that Mother Angelica is up in years and so i Fr. Groescel and that makes me sad. i am sure they will be replaced by people equally as wise. i have seen some of the shows with Bishop Sheen. he must have been such an inspiration to those Catholics living in his day. he also was very wise and learned.

if someone has more information on real catholic tv. i would like to know about it.

thanks.

Hello deborahaz - take a look here: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=259340

RealCatholicTV will only be on the internet, but this is the beauty of it actually!! When you have something on TV you are tied to only being able to see it when it’s on, or if you have TiVo or something. With RealCatholic, you will be able to go back and look at archives of anything produced at any time, when YOU are available, not just when the programming is available.

Cool eh? 🙂

wow, thank you. and that start september 1. you are right, when it is on the internet, then we can watch it at our convenience, not have to be tied to a tv schedule. thanks so much for the info. i will pass it on to fellow catholics.

I’m not a fan.

And don’t you dare say ‘truth hurts’ or some such: you don’t know me, don’t know my soul, have NO right to judge based on my taste in media personalities.

So let me explain why I’m not a fan: It seems to me he smirks when discussing his past debaucheries-- ‘I slept around! Did drugs! Hung with the In crowd! Did I mention how much I slept around?’ There doesn’t seem to be much regret there. He almost seems to be making a case for being crazy while young, but getting God once the hormones slow down.

Most of what he says is true and he has a very good way with words. It’s the constant smirk and the angry tone that put me off. He doesn’t make me want to be a better person. Doesn’t even make me want to be Catholic.

Mother Angelica was just as straight a shooter, but far less angry about it. She made Catholic orthodoxy seem attractive. Made you think it would bring you peace, wisdom, and joy.

Not so with Corapi. Pardon my language, but his faith seems to have left him perpetually pissed off.

Not real fond of your language. Maybe you should take it to another forum. As for your dislike of Fr. Corapi, well, you should be used to his language/tone. You kinda sound like him!
