What are your feelings, regarding Father Corapi?

To act the rake; to lead a dissolute, debauched life.

A reformed rake: someone who had their fun and finds enlightenment and proceeds to tell others forceably how to live their lives.

It happens all the time…“I’ve done drugs…I’ve slept around…and now I have the truth…and you are going to believe it or else”

IMHO…For me people like that are a turn off.
This is not at all the message I get from Fr. Corapi. His remarkable conversion story is a testament to the power of the mercy and grace of God, and to so many of us it is the greatly needed reminder to hope against all earthly knowledge for the salvation of the lost.

Why?

Father had to loose everything like most addicts to get well, but even then he fought it. He wanted his life back. God’s grace did help him back and he must have had a “charge” that wonderful feeling when you first “get it” when he had his conversion. I liked his story, bought it actually on DVD, but I know if he hadn’t hit bottom, there would be a good chance he would still be driving the red sports car and meeting celebs at parties. What I think bothers some, is that many (myself included) lived a less than perfect life and then changed, and want to spare someone else the pain. In Father’s case, without the drugs, I think he enjoyed the lifestyle and you can see a trace of wistfulness in his memories. You can’t hate everything about your past. It’s hard, because I can see both sides but I know that only someone who lived something can really talk about it. A woman that had 3 abortions can tell you how awful it was, how she regrets it and save a soul, OR the girl can think, “Sure, she had hers, her life was free to go to college, get married, etc. and now she feels guilty Would she really of changed her mind if she had to do it again?”
Certain ears will hear what they need and some wont, luckily Fr. Corapi isn’t the only voice. Remember, no matter how much you love him, he’s not perfect and shouldn’t be idolized.

I mean no disrespect but why in the world would that turn you off:confused:
If someone has been there done that and has seen the light so to speak why wouldn’t that be important…?? or helpful etc…

Like I’ve said some don’t like his delivery …

I especially like the way he teaches but prefer others when it comes to evangelism and apologetics…

if St Paul or St Augustine were still alive…people would not like their message also. These were bold men, especially St Paul…

I love ANYBODY who is anointed by God to tell me that I need to change and and do what is right in God’s eyes.

You should see and hear my spiritual director…

…and I have yet to read a single word of idolatry on this thread. It troubles me that we live in such an era, when no person is to be honored or respected above another, lest we be accused of idol-worship. We Catholics of all people ought to understand that we may have great reverence and admiration for a person - living or dead - without running the risk of idolatry. I doubt you could find so much as a single member on this forum who holds Fr. Corapi in such immeasurable esteem as the Blessed Virgin … and yet we do not sin in devotion to and veneration of her. So how is it the accusation could fall so easily upon those of us who greatly respect such men as this one priest?

And why do we feel we must we place an asterisk of guilt next to the name of every righteous person nowadays? Does this truly edify? I can hardly see how. “Yes, he may have many good qualities, but let us not forget he also has flaws!” This is the cry of mediocrity.

I think people do idolize many on earth, some not so great of course. When you want to buy their books, spend great amount of money on tapes, travel to see them (like a celebrity) you run the risk of putting them too high on a pedestal. I have read posts from people that turned from God because someone they “looked up too” was caught doing something bad or said one thing and was found to do another. If it was just the message, then that wouldn’t happen.
I love Fr. Groechel in a sense, I like some of his books, went to see him when he was in my hometown, like his order, but I wouldn’t put him above reproach. He reminds viewers/readers often not to do that. You have to admit, when people plan a year ahead of time to see someone speak, they are putting them pretty high up on a pedestal. I don’t get angry when someone doesn’t like Mother Angelica, or points out her faults…she doesn’t need me to protect her and Fr. C definitely doesn’t need that from his fans. : )
Sometimes people point out faults not to just point them out, but to give balance, that isn’t being mediocre, just honest. It doesn’t take away from him, but adds a dimension.

I love ANYBODY who is anointed by God to tell me that I need to change and and do what is right in God’s eyes.Great…just as long as you don’t “forget” the “human” factor. If you are following the teachings of the Church, going Mass, reconcillation, why do you need to “change”…and why do you need “someone” to tell you to “change”?

You should see and hear my spiritual director…
If I want to hear someone tell me what a rotten country I live in, how terrible the people are…how are laws are riddled in chaos…all I have to do is turn on TBN or Hagee. Same thing…different faith doctrine. Each believe they have cornered the market on the “truth”.

Perhaps I see positive change coming from within…i.e. the Holy Spirit. You can’t change hearts by threatening them with eternal damnation and left to feel “guilt” ridden. When I made my confirmation at age 28…I understood “why” . I realized the “students” in my CCD class were “going through the motions”…as were the classmates in my CCD class when I was in jr. high. I knew I wasn’t ready then. Fourteen years later…I was.

Do I disagree and/or struggle with certain issues within the Church? I sure do. Does it mean I am “less enlightened” than you or others who are faithful Fr. Corapi groupies? Not at all.

The leaders of our Church are first “human”. Fr. Corapi is not my style.

I have met up with Fr Groeschel also…and he says it like it is also. He is a no-nonsense kinda of fellow. He also calls many catholics ‘stupid’. He said it nine times when I went to his conference. I like him also. He’s straight up.

But he has a different personality than Father Corapi or even Mother Angelica.

None of these good people are my idol…I only have one hero. But I also know that these three do not shy away from criticism. They are not afraid to tell the truth. Groeschel is just as challenging…he is just not italian!!!😃

I have no need to point out their faults…if people have a need to do that, well, let them. They will have to answer to God for every critical word they use against them. And how would you explain to Him that you debase His anointed ones? And who are you to debase any of God’s anointed ones?🤷

My husband likes him, I like him, he’s at the top of our list of favorites ! Can’t imagine why anyone would not. We have many of his tapes. I think those we can identify with his past are helped the most by his message. Wishing him many more years in his ministry.🙂

Then I would suggest not to listen to him. When he speaks about his country, I look at my own. Fr corapi is prophetic and you know what they did to the prophets in the OT>>>>

And btw, he is the one that inspired Amy Betros and Normand to start the St Luke’s Mission in buffalo…no small feat I tell you…another two holy people. And ask me if he is not anointed?

If I am blessed by him, his blessing is worth no more or less than my spiritual director’s. If I went to confession to him, his absolution would be no idfferent than my own spiritual director’s. In my book, that does not equate to ‘idol’…😉

Very well stated.

I had the opportunity to hear Fr. Daniel Berrigan speak in Rock Hill SC many years ago. I was so excited. After leaving with the group I was with…I started to put it in perspective…that he was a human being and was passionate about issues, faith etc…just like me. He wasn’t a movie star…but he was a far cry from any priest I had ever heard of and I found was that he wasn’t perfect.

“Maybe” some feel Father Corapi doesn’t do it enough, Fr. G and Mother Angelica say depreciating things all the time. I think Father Corapi’s personality is different. If you catch him on one day, he’s somewhat humble, others, he sounds like he’s bragging. They might be anoited but they are human, if more people talked about bad priests in the past, we would be in a better place now. It’s all chemistry, nothing is perfect for everyone. I hate some comedians, others love them…it doesn’t make them less funny, just not to me. Same with preaching.

You have to be honest though, it you read next month Fr. C did something bad, you would be shocked and hurt…maybe very hurt. It’s a risk we all take when we make someone higher than us that isn’t God or love someone. You have to keep in in perspective. I couldn’t believe how many people were hurt and angry at Fr. Francis, but that was in part because they had an image that was broken. I guess I just try to be realistic and drink up what I can in hearing good news…but always knowing I have to have faith, not put it in someone else.

My faith has never been in any priest…otherwise I wouldn’t be here today. May faith is deeply ingrained and a total gift from God. I also believe that ALL priests are a gift from God.

It is just that Fr corapi has the charism of apostolic preaching…😃

Someone who can sense or feel the emotions of others
Code:
Ah! Empathy…

Empathy is the capacity to recognize or understand another’s state of mind or emotion. It is often characterized as the ability to “put oneself into another’s shoes”, or to in some way experience the outlook or emotions of another being within oneself.
It is important to note that empathy does not necessarily imply compassion. Empathy can be ‘used’ for compassionate or cruel behavior.

This is wonderful gift to have and thank God for it. Although being prophetic is not at the same leve at all…a prophet is never usually happy to be one…:o

Where does someone get off telling people they are Fadda Corapi ‘groupies?’

And as for me, even though I do attend Mass, go to Confession, pray the Rosary every day—I am still WEAK.

That’s why I need (and appreciate!) the constant reminders to stay on the straight and narrow: in other words, someone telling me to CHANGE.
