What are your five favorite films of any genre or country?

I know it’s so hard to narrow it down, but that’s your assignment: only five, please. They may be great films as well, but not necessarily, so long as they are your favorites.

Mine are, in no particular order:

Barry Lyndon
House of Games
After Hours
The Corn is Green (the original)
The Wizard of Oz

How about yours?

My Left Foot is wonderful, particularly the acting of Daniel Day-Louis. I suppose you heard of The Wizard of Oz; the others are not too well known.

Yes, The Wizard Of Oz is the only one that is familiar. I remember seeing it for the first time when I was a very young girl on our tiny, black and white t.v. Those flying monkeys and the wicked witch scared the life out of me. I’ll never forget it!

I saw My Left Foot when I was first dating my husband. He saw the crying side of me for sure.

Lawrence of Arabia, talk about an epic film, with a superb cast headed by the incomparable Peter O’Toole, and under the direction of the great David Lean.

Thérèse: The Story of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux

Resident Evil
The Woman in Black
 
Man, only five? Very tough.

Bhagavad Gita (G.V. Iyer) - As the title implies, this is an Indian film adaptation of the Bhagavad Gita. It’s rather unique because the film’s dialogue is in the Sanskrit language, pretty much the Latin of India. (Yeah, Mel Gibson wasn’t the first guy to film a sacred text in its ‘original’ language. :p)

Il Vangelo secondo Matteo / The Gospel according to St. Matthew (Pier Paolo Pasolini) - In my opinion, one of the best Jesus films ever made.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy - Sure, I didn’t like some of Peter Jackson’s decisions, but I gotta admit, LotR the film is epic.

Seven Samurai (Akira Kurosawa) - That one film many directors copy and repackage. 😉

The Lion King - Disney has a sort of bad rep these days for many reasons, but 90s Disney did produce two gems IMO: The Hunchback of Notre Dame and this.

Drive, is as of now , my all time favorite movie. Pulp Fiction, Fight Club, Cross Of Iron, The Thing, Lord Of the Rings, Star Wars (the old ones) and Mulan are some of my favorite movies.
 
So far, I don’t see any comedies on anyone’s list. My own list contains one comedy, that is, After Hours, but it is really a black comedy.

Driving Miss Daisy is my favorite comedy. I forgot to add it to my list. :doh2:
