I’m sure there are other instruments they can play in some, more musically “creative” Mass settings. For example,(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
You know that Dante’s poems are just that, don’t you? They are brilliant literature, but not at all related to anything the Church teaches. They come from his imagination. I wouldn’t cite them as theologically accurate; please don’t confuse people. In brilliant poetic form, Dante crystallizes and expresses Aristotelian ethics and Thomistic moral theology–which is the bedrock of orthodox Roman Catholic Moral Theology.
If somebody doesn’t like it–tough.

Is that all you got from my post is that I don’t try to hide important parts of who I am because I’m proud and want to live a sinful “lifestyle”? You should read the really excellent post from QwertyGirl in the “Homophobia Doesn’t Exist” thread in which she explained why using the word “lifestyle” in this context is demeaning. Here’s a part of that post:That’s the whole point of Pride Parades, which encourages people to be proud of who they are. The problem is when who we are involves a sinful lifestyle. Then there’s nothing to be proud about. Thus one has to differentiate between an inclination, and actually embracing the inclination. The problem with inclinations is that not all of them are good or worthy of embracing or celebrating.
I’m not proud to be gay, but I’m not ashamed of it either. To me, what I do in bed, although not an unimportant part of my life, is still a relatively small part of it. And from my perspective, the “inclination” as you call it, to be sexually attracted to the same sex is not a whole lot different from my ADHD in some respects. They both have something to do with how my brain works, and that’s probably just the way that I was born. One big difference between them, however, is that I wouldn’t consider being gay to be a disorder. The main impact it has had on my life is the discrimination I’ve sometimes faced as a result it. But like most gay people, it doesn’t impair by ability to function in society (that’s why homosexuality was removed from the DSM). The ADHD, on the other hand, impacts almost every part of my life, every day, including my relationships with other people and my ability to work. That’s why it’s considered to be a “neurodevelopmental disorder” and that’s why I take a stimulant medication every day to make my brain function more efficiently.I understand that, but is someones sex life their lifestyle? Here is what I think. I think a person’s sex life is usually a small part of their entire life. I think the word lifestyle refers to how a person approaches their life in general. Where do they live, where do they work, do they drink or do drugs, are they honest, etc etc etc. It is a whole compilation of choices they make in life, and what the end result looks like.
When we refer to gay sex as a lifestyle, it diminishes the people you are talking about to nothing more than
the choices they make about where to put their body parts. It is offensive, because they are so much more than that. Catholics say it all the time, that we are more than our sexual orientation. And yet, we will tell someone we love them but we hate their “liffestyle”. I guess what I am saying is it is a remark that denegrates the person as a whole, as opposed to a (very) small aspect of who they are.
Please don’t sow confusion. In brilliant poetic form, Dante crystallizes and expresses Aristotelian ethics and Thomistic moral theology–which is the bedrock of orthodox Roman Catholic Moral Theology.
