What are your liturgical plans for the Easter Triduum?

If I can get back home in time, I’ll be going to the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, which includes (in our parish) a procession through the church and taize prayer until midnight.

Good friday is stations of the cross, a reading of the passion, followed by veneration of the cross.

Saturday is the traditional vigil, and the Sunday will be either 8:00 or (if my desire to sleep overrules my desire to sit), or 9:30.
 
i will be attending Holy Thursday service and the next morning i plan to be in line to give my confession at 9am. i work Good Friday from 11-4:30pm and i plan on going to the Friday evening service at 7pm. i plan to attend the saturday Easter vigil at 7pm. and, depending on the weather (i live in the mountains), i would like to attend the Easter sunrise service at 6am.

On Holy Thursday I am going to journey to Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles for the 7:00pm Mass. Archbishop Gomez will be the main celebrant and I expect it will be beautiful. I will stop at St. Brendan’s Parish for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on the way to my hotel.

On Friday I will go to morning prayer at Good Shepard Parish and then return to the Cathedral at noon for the Good Friday Passion service. I had hoped to go to the 3:00pm service but the Archbishop will not be celebrating that one so I’ll juggle my plans. After the service I plan to spend some time in the Saint Vibiana’s Crypt Chapel, one of my favorite places. Then I will go for a long walk, stop for a simple, small meal, refresh myself and return to downtown to hear the LA Philharmonic at the Disney Center.

Saturday morning I am going to head to the Huntington Library were I can just wander around in a gorgeous setting, pray a Rosary and a chaplet or two while viewing some wonderful art. Then I’ll stop for another simple meal, maybe a quick nap and then head back to the Cathedral once again for the Easter Vigil Mass. I am really looking forward to that. It should be truly awesome. After Mass I hope to drive over to St. Andrew’s Eastern Catholic Parish for the Festal Divine Liturgy which begins at midnight. If I’m still awake after the liturgy I’ll stop at Tommy’s World Famous for a chili cheeseburger or two.

Then a nice long nap, the drive home and then it’s back to my real world culminating with Easter Sunday dinner.

What a great retreat. I like the Huntington Library grounds also (I used to go there when I lived in California).

Being a member of a Byzantine Catholic parish I hope to assist in all these if possible:

Wednesday evening: Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts
Triduum:
Thursday evening: Vespers with Divine Liturgy of St. Basil
Friday morning: Matins for Great and Holy Friday (Strasti)
Friday evening: The Entombment Vespers (with burial shroud procession)
Saturday evening: Resurrection Matins with Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom
Sunday morning: Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom
 
Monday: My husband and I will be attending the Chrism Mass…our first time. We will be bringing back the oils for our parish…nervous!

Tuesday: Normal daily Mass

Wednesday: Normal benediction and Mass. Catholics Can Come Home team meeting afterward.

Holy Thursday: Will go to my current church for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, followed by a Eucharistic procession and adoration. I am supposed to get my feet washed this time. I already told DH that I am staying all night for adoration…I don’t care if I eat or not…

Good Friday: I took the day off…start the Divine Mercy chaplet and go to Good Friday service.

Easter Vigil: Both hubby and I are sponsors this year so we for sure will be there.

Easter Sunday: Early service…and then it is off to brunch around 1…and I’m sure a nap…

Please pray for the fallen away Catholics that might be attend services on Easter…we start a new Catholic Can Come Home series the Wed after Easter.
 
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday–Mass after work.

Thursday–Mass of the Lord’s Supper, seven PM. Then stopping at seven churches en route home for brief periods of adoration. I have to program the GPS to see the most feasible stops (my commute is thirty miles one way, so I should be able to find seven churches in that span of distance, or near my route.)

Friday–Noon prayer service, “The Seven Last Words of Christ,” featuring a homily by a priest who is a theology professor at one of the local Catholic colleges here.

Friday–3pm Passion of the Lord

Friday evening–Bach concert at the cathedral.

Saturday–8 PM Easter Vigil Mass at the cathedral, including watching some new parishioners get confirmed.
 
Sunday - Solemn Procession and Mass of Palm Sunday; Vespers and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament

Monday - Daily Mass and Reconciliation Monday

Tuesday - Chrism Mass and rehearsal for Easter Sunday

Wednesday - Daily High Mass and OF Office of Tenebrae

Thursday - Last day of class before spring break; OF Solemn Mass, rehearsal and EF Solemn Mass followed by all night adoration at the altar of repostion; visit of seven churches; EF Office of Tenebrae

Friday; rehearsal, via crucis, Solemn Mass of the Presanctified;

Saturday; OF Easter Vigil, rehearsal and EF Easter Vigil

Sunday: EF Solemn High Mass and Vespers and Benediction

I’ll be attending all the major services and Masses from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday.

It’s great to read about the interesting plans some of you have made. I’ll have to put on my thinking cap to add something a little more creative to my plan.
 
This morning I attended a Palm Sunday liturgy/Mass that included a procession inspired by the original Palm Sunday – severely unorganized and chaotic. The service leaflet even said, “Like the original procession that accompanied Jesus into Jerusalem, our procession is meant to be somewhat chaotic and boisterous.” That was a very accurate description. I’m not sure if this was an April Fools’ joke or just another Novus Ordo thing (usually I attend the EF), but the ministers wore red vestments throughout the Mass instead of changing into purple vestments like they usually do.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights we’ll probably pray Tenebrae at home as a family.

Thursday evening, we are going to a parish that is doing the Mass of the Lord’s Supper within the context of a Passover Seder dinner (such as the one that the Last Supper was). I am quite unclear as to how that will work.

On Friday, I will be attending the Three Hours’ Agony at the cathedral. The remainder of Good Friday and Holy Saturday will feature various other forms of family and individual prayer.

Saturday night, I will be playing in a brass quintet at the Easter Vigil at our home parish, which I am looking forward to. We are playing a couple of awesome fanfares to announce the Lord’s resurrection.

Sunday morning, I will be having a brunch before the 10:15 Mass with our choir to celebrate Easter. I will then play my horn at the Mass (just me with the choir, no brass quintet this time). We will have a nice family dinner that night after praying Vespers as a family.

I will also be fasting on Good Friday and Holy Saturday, including abstinence from meat on Friday.

The colour of the day is red, they shouldn’t be changing into purple vestments. IIRC, a former Pastor used to wear a cope for the Blessing of the Palms, Reading of the Gospel and Procession then trade the cope for a chasuble, but both vestments were red, as was the altar frontal.

The 2 priests wore red vestments at the church I was at for Palm Sunday. Red was the primary color for various things in the church too.

So it’s a Novus Ordo thing. In the EF, red is the color for the liturgy of the palms only, and they change into purple for the Mass, since the Mass is a part of Lent, which is purple.
 
So many of the services I want to attend are late at night (Mass of the Lord’s Supper is 7:30-8:30, Prayers Around the Cross are 7:30-8:30, Easter Vigil is 8-10). My 11-month-old usually goes to bed at 8 pm–do you think it’s ok to keep her up late 3 days in a row?

That’s a decision for you to make. I might have taken my children to the Mass of the Lord’s Supper but I wouldn’t have taken an 11 mo. old to the Vigil because it’s too long. Then again, we all went to Midnight Mass as a family this past Christmas, and that included our 10 mo. old grandson.

I think it depends more on the child than on anything else. Some can take this disruption in their schedule with no problem, others will be terribly upset by it and be cranky for a couple days.
 
I have been working, but hubby and the kids have been going to daily Mass this week.

Our Chrism Mass is Thursday, but I won’t be able to attend. Really was hoping to get to it this year. 😦 We’ll be at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at our usual parish, my son will be serving.

Friday we are going to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Confession, then Stations at noon and Liturgy at 3pm.

We are not planning to be at the Easter Vigil Mass. We have some family events planned.

Easter Sunday we’ll be at the mid-morning Mass at our home parish. Expecting it to be packed to the rafters!

I love the idea of a mini-retreat/pilgrimage for the triduum. Since we have choir members, altar boys, and EMHCs in the family, we are usually at our home parish.
 
I found out I don’t have to work Friday, so I can go to the Good Friday service.

Interesting to see so many traveling to attend Easter services elsewhere. I am attending everything at my parish.
 
Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s Supper at my home parish. After the Mass is a procession of the Blessed Sacrament to an Altar of Repose.
Friday: Afternoon Liturgical Service, Living Stations of the Cross (not quite sure what the difference is between this and regular Stations), & Confession at my home parish.
Sunday: Traditional Latin High Mass at the F.S.S.P. parish downtown. Then, dinner with the family.

The Paschal Triduum is my favorite part of the liturgical year. I’m definitely excited.
 
Well, I did not end up going to the Holy Thursday Mass, but I will be going to the Good Friday service tomorrow at 3.

I’m also going to Confession tomorrow at 9 am.

How was everyone’s Holy Thursday Mass?

My plan was to attend an awesome Holy Thursday Mass and other goodies. Unfortunately, I was too sick to go anywhere after work.

Today, I am singing a medley of requiems in the morning and then off to the 3PM Good Friday service. Tomorrow - Easter Vigil and Sunday I will probably go to church with my kids.

I pray I will feel well enough to stick to my plans.
 
I attended a wonderful Holy Thursday Mass and am going to try and attend the Good Friday service (which is in the evening), then the Easter Vigil on Saturday night. And since I found out yesterday that I have Sunday off I will attend Mass. 🙂 All at my parish.
