What are your non-Lenten Fridays like?

We abstain from meat (though not this Friday as it’s a solemnity! Whoop whoop!)

For a while I had a habit of doing some chore I particularly disliked on Fridays as a penitential practice.
Even though this Friday is a solemnity, do we still need to do some type of penance?

My household abstains from meat on all Fridays. We either have fish, pasta, veggie pizza or a non meat soup. I also (just myself) started to fast on all Fridays (only 1 meal) for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. It’s been wonderful so far.
No meat on Fridays for me, and I like this idea of fasting for the Holy Souls, brad90956, I think I will do something similar.

Wow! I used to cook him meatless but he is a very meat and potatoes kind of guy. We are only the two of us so I just eat it too. Yes, major sweet tooth here. :o
So is mine, but he’s not going to force me to change how I practice my faith. He knows this is important to me because I’ve even offered to prepare two separate meals on Fridays so he could have what he wants and I could observe the abstinence. He declined the proposal because he didn’t want me to go to the trouble.

Were it to be an issue, however, I would probably make something meat-free that could easily be either a side dish or a main dish and add a hunk of meat for him. Ratatouille on rice is a good example—if I add a small steak or a sausage, he’d be happy 🙂 (We are just two as well.)

The Husband and his mom have watched me in a restaurant, picking every last speck of meat out of the fried rice that accompanied my baked fish. They know I’m committed to this, and they respect it.

That said, if the Path of Least Resistance is to curb your sweet tooth instead, just do that. No need to make this harder than it has to be!
